Dear Edison Families,
Wow, it’s been so cold outside this week! Please make sure your children are dressing warmly for the weather, and if your family needs any assistance with winter clothing, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s counselor, our school social worker, or one of our parent liaisons. We’re here to support you.
This past Monday, we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His message of service and community reminds us all to give back in meaningful ways. Let’s continue to find ways to serve and uplift our community.
I’d also like to give a huge congratulations to our girls' basketball coach, Dianne Lewis, who achieved her 500th career win on Monday night! What an incredible milestone—congratulations to Coach Lewis and the entire team on this amazing accomplishment!
On Thursday night, we hosted our Rising 9th Grade Global STEM Challenges Program night, and it was wonderful to see so many future Eagles excited about STEM! We’re thrilled to welcome the next generation of innovators to Edison.
As we look ahead, please note that Tuesday marks the end of the second quarter. I encourage you to check in with your child to make sure they’ve submitted all their work before grades close. Wednesday will be a teacher workday, so students will have the day off. On Thursday, we’ll kick off the third quarter—and hopefully some warmer weather will join us, too!
Thank you for your continued support of Edison High School. Stay warm and have a wonderful weekend!
Go Eagles!

FCPS is collaborating with Volunteer Fairfax for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Students and families can volunteer on Saturday, January 25, at Give Together at the James Lee Community Center.
Volunteer Fairfax invites families to participate in thoughtful, engaging service projects working alongside local nonprofit and government agency partners across a variety of mission areas. Projects will include food packing, creating care packages, environmental stewardship, and support for animal welfare. This event is free and open to the public but registration is required.
There will also be Financial Literacy Workshops offered at Give Together for students in grades 3-12. If you would like to attend one of the workshops, sign up during check-in on January 25.
Theater Parents: We invite you to the Edison Theater Company (ETC) Boosters Meeting on Monday, January 27th at 6:30pm in the BlackBox Theater (Mr. Walker's Classroom). This meeting is essential for parents of students who will be involved onstage or backstage for the spring production of Grease, but all theatre parents are welcome! Please enter through door 15. If you have any questions, please contact president@edisontheatrecompany.org
Congratulations on 500 career wins Coach Lewis!
Based on community feedback from the first quarter closure, FCPS revisited the scheduled dates for closing the Gradebook and Report Card modules in the SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE apps.
Moving forward, the app will close in alignment with the actual quarter-end dates. This change will allow students and families to view their assignments and grades until the last day of the quarter. Gradebook will be closed for the second quarter from Tuesday, January 28, 4 p.m. to Tuesday, February 4, 6 a.m.
Access Your Child’s Grades Through SIS ParentVue Learn how your ParentVUE account allows you to easily access grade reports and other helpful information about your child.

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse
FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.
What can families do?
- Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
- Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
- Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage.
- Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
- Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”
Get more information on opioid awareness.

📈 Virginia’s Student Assessment Summary for Families
This month, families of students who took any Standards of Learning (SOL) test between school years 2015-16 and 2023-24 will receive a Student Assessment Summary Report. The report shows a student’s state percentile ranking for each test. This allows families to see how their child ranked compared to all Virginia students who took the same test that year.
Reports are available now in SIS ParentVUE Documents. They will be distributed by schools this month to students whose families do not have ParentVUE access. Learn how to access ParentVUE.
The report is intended to help families reflect on how their child performed across all tested subjects over the years. Our schools and staff are committed to working with families to support every student to succeed at their highest potential. Learn more about student assessments in FCPS.
All FCPS families and middle and high school students have received an invitation to participate in a survey about FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R), cell phone policy, and cell phone storage options. The survey will be available through Monday, February 3. Please take a few moments to share your feedback and help FCPS make informed, inclusive decisions for all of our schools!
📝 Application for the 2025 Student Representative to the School Board
The School Board student representative represents the interests of Fairfax County Public Schools students. The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity. Students currently in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible to apply.
Watch this video to learn about the student representative experience from the current representative, Megan Sawant.
Application Information and Deadlines
To be considered for the election, students are required to provide:
- A written component, which is due Monday, February 24.
- A 30-second candidate video statement, which is due Wednesday, March 26. Candidates will be emailed a link to record their video on Monday, March 17.
Both application components are required to be considered for the election. Read more about the election process.
Student Services has asked the PTSA to help supply donations of gently used winter clothing, specifically winter jackets. Please consider donating winter jackets in all adult sizes for our students in need. Student Services was able to help some of our students in need by accessing clothing from other high schools. Students tend to prefer darker color jackets, and the puffy type is popular! Please email President.Edisonptsa@gmail.com with any questions.
Donations can be dropped off in the front office with the name Miss Worthen, Social Worker, on it. Thank you!
The class of 2025 All Night Grad Party will be held at the Franconia Rec Center on June 3, 2025 from 11:00pm until 4:30am.
The ANGP still has a number of open Sub Committee positions that require a shadow this year, due to many parents having a graduating senior and therefore not continuing in their current role next year.
We do need a fair number of non-senior parents to take over these positions for the 2025/2026 school year. If you know of any non-senior parent that might be interested in joining a committee now, to learn the ropes this year, please have them contact Robin A.
It is imperative that we get as many parents involved as possible so that the students can continue to enjoy a FUN and SAFE environment during their All Night Grad Party! Please help spread the word!
Email Robin with any questions at ehsptsa.angp@gmail.com!
