Annandale Students, Families, and Community:

This past week, Annandale faculty and staff came together to recognize the nominees for the FCPS Outstanding Awards, as well as announce our school level winners in the following categories: Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding New Teacher, Outstanding Operational Employee, Outstanding Professional Employee and Outstanding Leader. Thank you to those of you who nominated a staff member and congratulations to the school level award winners:

  • Outstanding Operational Employee - Jen Buchannan, Administrative Assistant
  • Outstanding New Teacher - Miles Meijer, Spanish Teacher
  • Outstanding Teacher - Tricia Kapuscinski, ESOL Teacher
  • Outstanding Professional Employee, Karen Olarinde, Instructional Coach
  • Outstanding Leader - Meg Anderson, Assessment Coach

And a huge congratulations to Karen Olarinde, who was selected to represent the Annandale Pyramid as Outstanding Professional!

We also took time to celebrate our students. Each month, teachers nominate students who demonstrate one of our Atoms Agreements of Empathy, Determination, and Safety. Then, nominees' names are removed, and Leadership students select nine winners. Nominees and winners are announced during W4 Advisory. This Friday, we recognized our Students of the Month at a special VIP party.

As a reminder, the second quarter ends on Tuesday, January 28. The next day, Wednesday, January 29 is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students. We will return to school on Thursday, January 30 to begin the third quarter. As always, reach out with any questions.

Go Atoms!

Shawn DeRose, Principal

School-Family Partnership

Families recently received a personalized student progress report email which includes students’ grades as well as any academic interventions or supports the student is receiving.

Research shows that the single most impactful thing parents can do to support their student’s education is to talk with them about school. As the end of the semester approaches, we encourage you to talk with your student about their classes and how they are taking advantage of PRIDE Time. Here is a question to help get the conversation started...

Which teachers should you stay after school with this week to make sure you are caught up for the end of the quarter?

Thank you for everything you do to support us and your student - we truly work together to support our students’ needs!

WiDA ACCESS for ELs consists of the following parts (domains): Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Each domain is a separate test and students must complete all 4 domains to meet the testing requirement.
