A Message from Principal Ritter

Greetings Gator Families,

Brrr...  the weather has been so cold!  But snow days and delayed openings aren't keeping our Gator Nation from learning and growing as we begin 2025!   Please be sure to have your child come to school with a winter coat on these cold days.

During the next few weeks, we will be wrapping up the second quarter of school and students will be engaged in mid-year assessments.  The second quarter ends on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, which is a full day of school.  A Teacher Workday is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Lots of exciting events are coming up in February:  visiting author Marc Tyler Nobleman on the 10th, beginning Strings concert on the 12th, PTA Family Fitness Night on the 7th, and lots more!  Stay tuned for the weekly Gator Bytes to stay "in-the-know"!

Bundle up for Winter Recess

Winter is here, and we’re ready to keep recess safe and fun for everyone! Please take a moment to review Cold Weather Recess Guidelines, based on recommendations from the National Weather Service (NWS):

  • Wind Chill Advisory: Outdoor recess will be a brisk 15 minutes max!
  • Wind Chill Warning: Recess will move indoors for activities.

To keep everyone’s winter gear in check, please write your child’s name on their items (coats, hats, gloves, scarves, etc.). Our lost and found is overflowing, and labeled gear makes reunions much easier!

Thank you for helping us keep recess safe and warm this winter!

Save the Date: Student-Led STEAM Night at Kings Glen!!

Wednesday, March 19, 6-7:30 p.m.

I am excited to announce Kings Glen will have a Student-Led STEAM Night on Wednesday, March 19th from 6-7:30 p.m. This event will showcase the incredible creativity and innovation of our students as they run interactive stations for their peers and share their STEAM projects. If you are interested in participating in this event, please complete the STEAM Night Project Plan form. Please reach out to Mrs. Rode if you have any questions.

Attendance Matters!

Welcome to the new year!  It's important to remember the value of regular school attendance. Every day in school counts! Consistent attendance helps students:

  • Build strong academic foundations: Missing even a few days of school can disrupt learning and make it harder to keep up with their classmates.
  • Develop important social skills: School is a place where children learn to interact with others, resolve conflicts, and build friendships.
  • Foster a love of learning: Regular attendance encourages a positive attitude towards education and a lifelong love of learning.

We understand that unexpected illnesses and emergencies can occur. However, please make every effort to minimize absences and tardiness.

KPKG PTA

 KP/KG PTA News

Mark your calendars - our FREE PTA Family Fitness Night is coming up at Kings Glen on Friday, February 7th starting at 6:30PM.  We’ll also have a PTA meeting to elect our nominating committee AND FCPS School Board Members Sandy Anderson (Springfield District Representative) and Rachna Seizemore Heizer (Braddock District Representative) will discuss various school board items, including the boundary study, funding, and more.

We’re looking for candidates for the Nominating Committee.  Each year the PTA elects a Nominating Committee to put forth a slate of candidates for the PTA's next executive board.  The PTA plans to elect the nominating committee at our February 7 meeting.  Are you interested in serving on this committee?  Please contact PTA president, Charlotte Hannagan, at president@kpkgpta.org.  Similarly, please reach out to Charlotte if you have any interest in serving on the 2025-2026 PTA board.

Our next Spirit Nights are coming up in February.  We will have a Parents Night Out on Friday, February 21st at Code Ninjas and a weeklong spirit week at Chick-Fil-A from February 24-28.  Stay tuned for more information!

Thank you to Jen Argenta for organizing another highly successful Summer Camp Fair last week, and to Lisley Anco for putting together such a diverse slate of winter afterschool programs!
