Last Chance for Lost & Found through 01/29/25

This is the last chance to claim items that had been brought to the Lost & Found between the beginning of the school year and December 20, 2024.  Families may contact Belle Arze at bbareze@fcps.edu to schedule a time to look or stop by the school to search for any unclaimed items.  The BMP front office will also be open on January 29, 2025, a day for no students, so families may stop by together.

Specialist Spotlight - MATH

Math Happenings At BMP!

Math Olympiad is a math competition where students compete in monthly contests individually, but meet to practice problem solving and do math together.  From December to March, a group of fourth and fifth grade students have been meeting on Thursday mornings with Ms. Bell and Ms. Hoang to engage in this activity.  Teachers facilitate the weekly team “practices” where students work on the “problem of the week.”   The focus is to teach “multiple strategies for out-of-the-box problem solving, develop mathematical flexibility in solving those problems, and foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity.”  Positive attitude and growth mindset around math challenges may lead students to just take risks in mathematical discourse in their classrooms.

This year, Title I Math event will occur during the school day!  Families will be invited into their child’s classroom to engage in math activities and learning together.   Your child’s teacher will share information about time and date for the specific grade level.   We look forward to seeing families celebrate math at Bren Mar Park!

Join Us for Celebrating Cultural Stories

Bren Mar Park is hosting its annual Celebrating Cultural Stories Night on January 30th, 2025. This is an evening event that encourages students to experience new cultures by listening to stories in multiple languages. We welcome all families and students to enjoy exciting stories and cultural foods! Doors will open at 6:00 pm.

If you have any questions about Celebrating Cultural Stories Night please contact our Family Liaison, Belle Arze, at bbarze@fcps.edu for more details.

Getting to Know Your BMP Staff

Erika Radke, Art.

Erika

This is my first year teaching at Bren Mar Park, and FCPS. I am never bored since I go to a different school each day of the week! Additionally, I teach ceramic sculpture at the Workhouse Arts Center. I double majored in Sculpture and Crafts at VCU.

After school, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my three kids who are in 5th grade, 4th, and kindergarten. I also love making art and trying out new techniques!
