Dear Terraset Families,

Welcome back and to a full week of school this week! We hope that you had a relaxing and joyous extended winter break. This break was very special for me personally, as I celebrated one year of being your proud principal on January 2nd. Most of you already know that I attended Terraset as a student, (many years ago), and therefore it is my absolute honor and privilege to serve our Tiger community in my role.

We will continue to ensure a safe, caring, and dynamic learning environment where every Tiger feels seen, welcomed, valued, and supported. Our children will engage in meaningful, responsive, and rigorous instruction that maximizes their individual potential. We are very excited for this second half of the school year with you!

Welcome Back,

Katie Aldridge, Principal

Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal

Please join us for informal coffee and conversations from 9:45am-10:15am in the cafeteria or view via live stream!  These sessions will be opportunities to hear about great things happening at Terraset and in FCPS and ask any questions you might have.  We hope you can join us on:

👋🏼Terraset Family Outreach Night

We are thrilled to invite you to our school Family Outreach Night on Summer Camps and Activities this coming Wednesday, January 22nd at the Terraset cafeteria. There will be community representatives in attendance, ready to share information about all summer opportunities available in our community (i.e. Reston Library, Reston Camps, Reston Community Center, FCPA Camps and others).

This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to explore different camps and resources! You will be able to sign up your child for their preferred camp/s and apply for scholarships when available!

Please note that we will have specific time blocks for our families as follows:

 6:00-6.45 – ESOL Families

 6:45-7.30 – Non-ESOL Families

We look forward to seeing you then!

❄️Outdoor Recess During Winter

Recess will be held outdoors if:

  • the play areas are clear/safe (without ice)
  • the National Weather Service has not issued a wind chill advisory

Recess will not be held on 2-hour delay days.

If you or our child need support with winter clothing, please reach out to our family liaison, Marina Chavez.

📝Survey of Preschool Children

If you have a preschool-aged child who is eligible for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year, please use this link to access the form. Return completed forms to the office no later than February 28, 2025.

If you know of any children in your neighborhood who also have rising kindergartners, please share this information or ask them to reach out to Shannon Johnson at 703-390-5602.

Virginia law, Section 22.1-254 requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2025, must enroll in kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year. If your child turns five on or before 09/30/2025 and you do not wish to enroll him/her in kindergarten, please let us know in writing.

The form can be submitted to Shannon Johnson via email or by dropping it off at the main office. Thank you for your assistance in helping us identify school-age children.
