A Message from the Principal

Greetings, Irving Families!

Happy New Year! It was so nice to have students and staff back in the building today. With this week gone so quickly due to snow days, it is hard to believe that we will be finishing the first semester in just two weeks. We have much to celebrate and look forward to in the new year. Over the next few weeks all our students will be looking to the future as they consider what courses they would like to take during the 2025-2026 school year. It is an exciting time where students consider their interests and explore all of the offerings available to them at Irving Middle or West Springfield High School. To help with course selections, we offer a variety of events.

The first event to help with course selection is our Curriculum Night for RISING 7th and 8th grade students on Thursday, January 16. We will be sharing information about core classes and provide time for families to explore our elective classes. Also, over the next couple of weeks, we will be welcoming our rising sixth graders for a tour of our building and a chance to see the elective courses in action. Lastly, students will be bringing home course selection sheets over the next few weeks as well. Rising ninth graders will be the first to receive their course selection sheets on Monday, January 13, so please be sure to check your child’s backpack for that important form. We ask our future Spartans to return their course selection sheets by Friday, January 24.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Take Care!
Cindy Conley

New Irving Information

Course Selection Begins in January

Beginning in January 2025, students will meet with their counselors to discuss course selection for next year. Families are encouraged to actively participate in this important process.

As students choose courses, it is important to remind them to consider the following:

  • Current academic strengths and habits.
  • Graduation requirements (high school students).
  • Interests and career and postsecondary goals.
  • Personal well-being.
  • Extracurricular activities and other commitments that may impact students’ time and energy.

School-life balance is an important consideration as students strive for academic and personal success. Families are welcome to contact their student’s school counselor with questions.
