Message from Mr. Greata

It was wonderful to see all our students back in the building today! There’s nothing quite like the energy of a high school buzzing with our student body. While it’s a bit belated, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

With the recent snow days, there isn’t too much to share, but I’d like to provide some important updates to help us all get reoriented to the school year.

We are now beginning to prepare for course registrations for the upcoming school year. Students and families will soon receive information about our course catalog. Despite the weather disruptions, we’re moving forward with our Curriculum Night on Wednesday, January 15th, at 6:00 p.m. If you’re a parent or guardian of a rising 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grader, we encourage you to attend this informative event. We also recommend reviewing our Academic Advising wepbage.

Important January Dates
Here are some key dates to keep in mind for the rest of the month:

  • Monday, January 20: School closed for MLK Day and Inauguration Day.
  • Tuesday, January 28: End of the 2nd quarter.
  • Wednesday, January 29: Teacher Workday - no school for students.

Congratulations to all our athletes who made All-State teams for fall sports! We are incredibly proud of your hard work and accomplishments.

  • Han Lee - All-State Boys Golf 1st Team and 2nd Team All Met
  • Keira Arenholz - All-State Girls Cross Country 1st Team
  • Sofie Ferrell - All-State Girls Volleyball 2nd Team
  • Kelby Lennen - All-State Field Hockey 1st Team
  • Siena Niedrick - All-State Field Hockey 2nd Team

Join us tonight to support our boys' basketball team at home as they face Lake Braddock. Then, tomorrow, come cheer on the girls' wrestling team at Lewis, starting at 10 a.m. Let’s show our school spirit!

Stay warm, have a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

Warm regards,

Kevin Greata
Principal

Curriculum Night

Mark your calendars for our annual Curriculum Night this Wednesday, January 15, from 6:00-8:00pm. At this open house style event, we will have teachers and staff from each of our academic departments and FCPS academy programs available to answer any questions you may have regarding course options for next year. Additionally, there will be a presentation for rising 9th grade students and families in the auditorium from 6:00-6:45 where we will share information about the transition to high school, in addition to information and resources regarding course selection.

To prepare for Academic Advising please bookmark our Academic Advising wepbage! This page will be updated throughout the Academic Advising Window (January-March).

2nd Quarter Ends Tuesday, January 28th

Tuesday, January 28, is the last day of the second quarter. See the complete school year calendar.

Based on community feedback from the first quarter closure, FCPS revisited the scheduled dates for closing the Gradebook and Report Card modules in the SIS ParentVUE and StudentVUE apps.

Moving forward, the app will close in alignment with the actual quarter-end dates. This change will allow students and families to view their assignments and grades until the last day of the quarter. Gradebook will be closed for the second quarter from Tuesday, January 28, 4 p.m. to Tuesday, February 4, 6 a.m.
