Centreville Students, Families, and Community,
A Happy New Year to the Wildcat Nation! I hope you found time to engage in activities that provided you rest, relaxation, and recharging! During the break, I was able to spend time with my family. We were able to do some shopping in Georgetown, see the James Bond exhibit at the Spy Museum, and spent time playing games and watching movies at home.
As we welcome the new calendar year, it's a time to reflect on our achievements and recommit to our goals, while also embracing the opportunity for new beginnings. At Centreville High School, we are excited to continue our journey toward instructional excellence and a positive school climate in 2025. With each fresh start comes the chance to build on our progress and strive for even greater accomplishments.
When we return from the break, we will be particularly focused on recommitting to the importance of regular and on-time school attendance. Consistent attendance is essential for student success, allowing everyone to fully engage in learning and opportunities for growth. Together—students, families, staff, and the community—we will work to ensure that every student is present, on-time, and ready to succeed every day!
Enjoy the extra snow day, stay warm, stay safe, and we look forward to welcoming back our students in the coming days!
Thank you and Go Wildcats!
Dr. Erik Healey
Principal
Centreville High School
January 10 - Electives Fair, ROAR
January 14 - PTSA Meeting - 7:00 PM, CVHS Library
January 15 - Curriculum Night - 6:30 PM
January 10 - Electives Fair: The Electives Fair for rising 10-12 grade students will be held on Friday, January 10. Students will be able to attend three informational sessions on electives of their choice. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about courses of interest prior to course selection.
January 14 - PTSA Meeting: The PTSA has always proudly sponsored the All-Night Grad Party (ANGP) and supported the parent volunteers who make it happen! The PTSA navigates all payments to vendors and venues. But this event needs to be parent-led. The PTSA is using the January 14th meeting (7:00pm CVHS Library) to host an interest meeting for parents who are interested in volunteering for, donating to, supporting, learning about or chairing the All Night Grad Party for the Class of 2025. This is not limited to parents of the class of 2025. In fact, underclass parents have historically been the most involved! This event cannot happen without parent support. And we hope to see you in January!
January 15 - Centreville High School Curriculum Night: Students and families are invited to attend Centreville’s Curriculum Night on January 15 from 6:30-8:30 PM. During our Open House format, staff representatives from each academic department will be available to answer any questions about our courses. We will also hold two special information sessions for Rising 9th Grade Course Registration Information (6:30-7:15 PM) and Rising 10th-12th Grade Course Registration Information (7:30-8:00 PM). Please reach out to your student’s counselor if you have any questions.
December Student of the Month Celebration: 72 students were recognized this quarter for demonstrating outstanding ROAR traits; Respect, Ownership, Achievement, and Relationships. The ROAR committee partnered with Wildcat Mentors and Cat B students to organize a “sweet” event for the recognized students. They were treated with hot chocolate and cookies during the celebration. The students wrote a thank you note to show their appreciation to a teacher that has made a difference, which were placed in staff mailboxes prior to winter break.

Antigone 3021 Highlighted in Cappies Review: Fairfax County Public Schools students are talented actors, musicians, and visual artists. Many FCPS high schools participate in the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Critics and Awards Program for High School Theatre, otherwise known as the Cappies.
Centreville's Theater Program was highlighted in the FCPS Newsletter for its outstanding rendition of Antigone 3021. As stated in the Cappies review "With each scene revealing a new aspect of the twisted tragedy, Centreville High School’s rendition of Antigone: 3021 brings fresh relevance to the classic Greek play, drawing parallels between the ancient world and contemporary societal struggles." You can read the full review here.
Congratulations to Mr. McGee and all the students who made this production an incredible success!
German Trip to Baltimore: Mr. Uden and Ms. Rife led their annual field trip to Baltimore with the German program on Wednesday and Thursday. A well-known part of the German culture at this time of year is Christmas markets with rows of vendors and delicious food. The closest thing to the real deal is a large one organized in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore. Jake and Melissa take 100 kids over two days to tour the market, learn about the German holiday traditions, and experience the fun of the markets.

Parent Cafe for Spanish speaking families: Ana Alvarez, one of our Family Liaisons, held a Parent Cafe for our Spanish speaking families on December 19, that provided information about community resources and support. Specifically, our families heard from the Fairfax County Department of Health, Fairfax County Neighborhood & Community Services, and HealthWorks. Our families also received information from the Centreville Immigration Forum and were provided guidance on the process of obtaining medical insurance. This was a helpful event for our families!

Students will be able to observe committee hearings and floor debate, take a tour of the state capitol, participate in panels with lobbyists, advocates, and political leaders, as well meet lawmakers and their staff. This is a great opportunity for students considering a future career in government, politics, or law - but all are encouraged to apply. Please note that this is a free program and students will be provided with transportation, lodging, and meals at no cost to them or their families.
The application is open to junior and senior students until Tuesday, December 27th at 6:00pm. Spots are limited, so students should expect to be notified about their status following the closing of the application.
Here is the link to the application, which also includes more information about the program: https://forms.gle/LMoqa8q5iYAgHyXV6

Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated. Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.

CVHS Academic Advising Timeline 2025-2026: It is hard to believe, but it is time for us to begin planning for the 2025-2026 school year. Below are key dates and information to support students and families through the course selection process:
January 6: Academic Advising materials available online
January 8-9: CVHS Core Days - Teachers will spend time during their classes to discuss course options with students based on their current course and what students need to consider as they make their decision.
January 10: Academic Advising Video & Electives Fair for students
January 15: CVHS Curriculum Night - 6:30-8:00 PM
January 16: Initial Course Entry - ROAR
As students choose courses, it is important to remind them to consider the following:
- Current academic strengths and habits.
- Graduation requirements (high school students).
- Interests and career and postsecondary goals.
- Personal well-being.
- Extracurricular activities and other commitments that may impact students’ time and energy.
School-life balance is an important consideration as students strive for academic and personal success. Families are welcome to contact their student’s school counselor with questions.
Graduation Requirements and Planning: Careful consideration is essential when planning next year's courses. We encourage our students and families to review the Graduation Requirements and Course Planning webpage to make informed decisions while planning for success in high school and beyond. Reviewing the Program of Studies may be helpful as well.
Academy Open Houses Begin in January: FCPS high school academies will hold open houses for interested students beginning in January. A high school academy is a center within a high school that offers advanced technical and specialized courses to prepare students for postsecondary education and/or career fields. Students enrolling in academy elective courses will be provided with opportunities to participate in a variety of career experiences including shadowing, mentoring, or internships with local businesses. Learn more and view the calendar of Academy Open Houses.
