Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

What a lovely way to go off into Winter Break and the new year! Many Stingers were donning their comfiest and coziest PJs for our SCA Spirit Day as we looked out the windows to snow flurries throughout the day!

This week we had Family Invites in 4th grade and Kindergarten. 4th grade showed off and celebrated their writing virtually with families. And Kindergarten did fun Winter Centers. We also had a PTA sponsored assembly on Thursday with some turtles visiting who were being cared for by Blue Ridge Wildlife. Finally, we ended Friday afternoon with Hive Families playing games together.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful and restful winter break!  We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, January 6th, 2025!

Chanukah

Chanukah, an 8-day Festival of Lights, is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple and the miracle of a small quantity of oil that lit the Temple’s menorah for 8 days. This year, Chanukah begins at sundown on Wednesday, December 25th

Christmas

🎄 A very Merry Christmas to those in our community who celebrate! Christmas is an annual holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the person who stands at the heart of the Christian tradition. It is celebrated in many unique ways across the U.S. and the world, most commonly by the joyous giving of gifts.

Kwanza

Heri za Kwanzaa (“Happy Kwanzaa”) to those that celebrate in our community. Kwanzaa is a long celebration of African American culture and heritage, observed from December 26th to January 1st. It is a time for families to come together, reflect on their history and traditions, and celebrate the principles of Kwanzaa.

Three Kings Day/Epiphany

Happy Three Kings Day to those in our community who celebrate! Also known as the Epiphany, Three Kings Day commemorates the Biblical story of the three kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the newborn Jesus. #OurFCPS

A Note From Mrs. Cole

Mrs. Cole wants everyone to know that winter break is a great time to relax and read with your kids. Even though the Stenwood library will be closed, the Fairfax County Public Library will be open with all kinds of programs and books available for students.  Winter break is also a great time to round up library books that need to be returned in January.  Currently we have over 375 Stenwood library books overdue. It would be great to get them back and start the new year fresh.  Happy Reading!
