December 20 - News and Notes!
Rolling Valley Families,
We had a busy and exciting week filled with wonderful activities and celebrations! Our 3rd grade students had an incredible field trip to the National Children’s Museum, where they explored hands-on STEAM activities that sparked their curiosity and creativity. We also enjoyed a fantastic band and strings concert that showcased the incredible talent and dedication of our student musicians.
To close out the week, we celebrated former principal Dr. Maureen Boland, who was honored with a resolution from Delegate Kathy Tran of the Virginia General Assembly. The resolution recognized Dr. Boland's outstanding years of service in education and her lasting impact on the community. Dr. Boland was joined by her father and husband for this special celebration, making the occasion even more meaningful.
As we look forward to winter break, we hope you and your family take this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy special moments together. Stay safe, and have a joyful and peaceful holiday season!

School Improvement & Innovation Plan (SIIP):
Dear Rolling Valley Families,
As we finish the first half of the school year and prepare to welcome a new year, I want to take a moment to share the incredible progress we've made toward our School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP) goals!
This year, we are focused on three key areas:
-
Reading: By June 2025, 100% of all students will increase by one level in communication on the Student Reading Profile.
-
Mathematics: By June 2025, 100% of all students will increase by one level in communication on the Student Mathematics Profile in the problem-solving strand.
-
Portrait of a Graduate: By June 2025, 100% of students in Grades K-6 will self-reflect on their growth in communication from the beginning to the end of the year as measured by a checklist and/or team-created interviews or reflection sheets.
We’ve already collected our baseline data and are using this information to strategically guide our instruction, ensuring all students continue to make progress in these specific areas.
To involve our families in this important work, we’ve hosted two Principal Coffee and Instructional Insight meetings. These gatherings have been wonderful opportunities to connect, share, and learn about the strategies our teachers are using to elevate instruction in math and reading.
Our teachers have been implementing best practices, including strategies from Hands Down, Speak Out, to enhance classroom discussions and foster student engagement. We're excited to see the positive impact these approaches are having on your children’s learning experiences.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child’s education. Together, we’re building a strong foundation for success!
