Message from Mr. Greata
The week before winter break is always a special time at Carter G. Woodson High School. It’s a week filled with school spirit, celebrations, and recognition of the outstanding work of our students and staff. As always, Mrs. Glover helped take our spirit week to the next level—be sure to check out the picture of her, along with Mrs. Esposito, Mrs. O’Brien, and Mrs. Pugnetti below. Don’t forget to visit Instagram to see highlights from our student-staff Dance-Off at the pep rally—you’ll be impressed.
During the pep rally, we were thrilled to recognize two staff members as Carter G. Woodson Pyramid winners for FCPS Outstanding Employees. Congratulations to:
-
Lauren Kinne for receiving the Outstanding Teacher Pyramid Award.
-
Kathy Martin for receiving the Outstanding School Leader Pyramid Award.
Both are well-deserved honors—congratulations!
In athletics, a big shoutout to our undefeated Esports Rocket League team, with an incredible 44 wins this season! They’ve earned their third consecutive championship title. Congratulations to Connor Lane, Andrew Wong, Greysen Berg, and their coaches Mike Kuykendall and Johnny Shu!
We also announced our new head football coach, Joe McBride, who had the chance to meet our players this past Thursday. We’re excited to see him working with the team this spring during Green Days.
On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Madison Mashup Girls Wrestling Tournament. The energy in the room was indescribable, with over 200 wrestlers competing fiercely. Even our Superintendent, Dr. Reid, joined us to support this blossoming sport in FCPS. We are incredibly proud of our wrestlers: Dani Hyder (1st place), Serena Mancuso (2nd place), Nimmar Al-Qudwa Al-Hussieni (2nd place)
Be sure to come out for their next match on January 11th at Lewis High School, starting at 8:00 AM. We also have our annual Cav Classic tournament this Saturday starting at 9:00 AM in our main gym.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Performing Arts teachers, Aaron Morgan, Amy Moir, Lonnie Bickel, Devyn Wilcox, and Chris Rushing, who put on another amazing performance this past Tuesday. The talent at our school is simply outstanding, and it’s clear our teachers bring out the best in our students. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
