Congratulations to our band, strings and chorus students and staff for a wonderful Winter Concert. On Tuesday, they performed for the entire school in the morning and for families in the evening.

A Message from Ms. Consolla
Thank you to our PTA who made our first Holiday Craft Market a success. Over 400 visitors came to enjoy pancakes & hot chocolate, donate to our winter clothing drive, listen to singers from West Potomac HS and of course, shop for amazing crafts made by students, staff, parents and neighbors. The creativity of this community is truly impressive.
Our teachers will be finishing the last week of instruction in 2024 on a strong note. Grades 4-6 will be teaching the Family Life Education lessons while all grade levels are finishing up Unit 3 in language arts. One of the features of our new Benchmark curriculum is that all units in Grades K-6 are aligned so that everyone has the same lens through which they are learning about reading and writing. Unit 3 has been focused on government while the next unit beginning in January will be about point of view and perspectives.
As always, thank you for your partnership with us at Fort Hunt.

Gifts for Teachers
During December, some families like to give a gift to teachers but might not have time to shop. Our PTA has set up an easy way to contribute to grade level & specialists accounts. When you click this link, you can choose an amount. The following page will allow you to designate where the gift will go. Simply repeat the process to contribute to multiple grade levels. The PTA is asking that all contributions be made by Sunday, December 15th.

Advanced Academics Screening Deadline on Sunday, December 15
Families with students in grades 2-6 that may be interested in referring their child for full-time advanced academic services for the 2024-25 school year should email a referral by the deadline of 11:59pm Sunday, December 15, 2024 to Preshion Lynch (pmlynch@fcps.edu)
I know that parents have the option to submit up to two work samples. Can I ask my child's teacher for samples?
No. Any work sample that is completed at school has to be designated as a school sample for the central screening committee. Please do not contact classroom teachers for wok samples. If a parent/guardian chooses to submit work samples, then those samples should have been completed outside of school. Fort Hunt staff will review a collection of work for each student and contribute a minimum of four pages of work samples to the referral packet. Again, parents have the option of submitting two pages of work samples.
Where can I get more information?
For more information on full-time AAP and the continuum of services, please refer to the AAP website: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs
Referral forms and the optional parent questionnaire may be found through this link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/advanced-academic-programs-aap/forms-advanced-academic-program-aap
Eligibility decisions will be emailed to families in early April.
If you have any questions about screening and the continuum of services, please contact Preshion Lynch, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, at pmlynch@fcps.edu
Lights! Camera! Action! Our live news show debuted this Wednesday, and the reviews are very positive: "It was pretty cool," said one fifth grader. Our news crew writes, anchors and runs camera operations with support from Ms. Wise and Ms. Von Kolnitz. More features will be added as the year progresses.
I'm Lost! I Want to be Found!
Our Lost & Found, located just inside the cafeteria, is overflowing. If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt or hoodie, it's probably hanging (out) in our cafeteria with some water bottles and lunch boxes. Please prompt your child to stop by if they're missing something.

All families of current Grade 6 students are invited to this electives fair. Between January 20-February 7, the Sandburg counselors will be visiting Fort Hunt to review course offerings and provide academic advising. They will be working closely with our school counselor, Ms. McLenithan, to support families with any questions they might have about this transition to middle school.
