Dates for December 13th

Water fountain

A Message from the Principal

Greetings, Irving Families!

First, I want to thank our amazing PTA for all their efforts in getting a water bottle refill station installed on our second floor! Our staff and students are thrilled to have this station available for use. Not only is it conveniently located for our staff and students on the second floor, but it also helps with eliminating single-use water bottles - which reinforces being good stewards of our community and environment. Thank you, PTA!

Speaking of projects, our vestibule is almost finished, and we hope to have the glass added to the doors over winter break. We will keep you updated when we are able to fully implement the use of the vestibule. We are excited to share that our outdoor classroom construction will begin over winter break as well. The plans include a concrete platform that will have space for a full class, additional planter boxes, and a shed for storage. Lastly, over break a few of our classrooms will have new tile flooring installed. Since our building will be under construction, we will be closing our offices from December 21-January 5. Our offices will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Take Care!
Cindy Conley

Course Selection Begins in January

Beginning in January 2025, students will meet with their counselors to discuss course selection for next year. Families are encouraged to actively participate in this important process.

As students choose courses, it is important to remind them to consider the following:

  • Current academic strengths and habits.
  • Graduation requirements (high school students).
  • Interests and career and postsecondary goals.
  • Personal well-being.
  • Extracurricular activities and other commitments that may impact students’ time and energy.

School-life balance is an important consideration as students strive for academic and personal success. Families are welcome to contact their student’s school counselor with questions.

Reminder:  Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15, 2024

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Katie Richter at kerichter@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2024

The window for families to submit a referral for Full-Time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for Full-Time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for Full-Time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for Full-Time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Katie Richter at kerichter@fcps.edu

Referrals for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss this deadline, your student can still be screened for Subject-Specific AAP or Part-Time AAP for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for Full-Time AAP next fall.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website.
