Counseling Lessons
During the month of December, students learned about Careers during Counseling Lessons. Each grade level learned a different aspect about careers, career education, or career planning.
In Kindergarten, we are learning about our interests and talents and how they are important to thinking about future careers.
In 1st Grade, we are learning about a variety of careers, and what careers might interest us in the future.
In 2nd Grade, we are learning about our values and character traits, and how those can help us think about careers that might be a good fit for us.
In 3rd Grade, we are learning about our talents and interests, and a little about education planning for future careers that interest us.
In 4th Grade, we are learning more in-depth about our interests and completing an interest survey. We will see how our unique interests work well with specific careers.
In 5th Grade, we are learning about Career Clusters. This is a way of grouping careers together and seeing how certain groups of careers match our interests and talents.
In 6th Grade, we are reviewing Career Clusters and thinking about which Career Cluster would be a good fit for us. We are also working on some Mind Maps about our interests, values, character traits, and talents, and then writing about how all those things lead to potential career choices and academic planning as we head toward middle school. This work will all be saved in a Career Portfolio that will go with students to middle school next year, and help them as they continue to think and plan for their future careers.
