Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Art Contest
We are excited to announce that this summer we will be providing no-cost meals through our mobile summer feeding bus! When the school year ends, many children in our community lose access to reliable meals. While some locations offer free meals over the summer, many kids who lack transportation are left without food. Our mobile bus aims to solve this issue by bringing nutritious meals directly to the neighborhoods of children in need.
To make this project successful, we would greatly appreciate the support of our students, particularly those participating in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. We invite your school to join an art contest, where the winning artwork will be displayed outside our bus. Students are encouraged to create drawings of fruits and vegetables or to illustrate their interpretation of healthy eating.
If your child is interested in participating, please submit all artwork as a JPG file to their art teacher by January 31st.

Last week our staff held a "secret spirit week" and students had fun guessing the themes. Friday was Moustache Day!
⛄Student and Family Resources
Fairfax County Public Schools has compiled a list of resources for students and families in case they need assistance while schools are closed for winter break. Please visit FCPS’ winter resources webpage for information on academic support, mental health support, and county resources related to food, clothing, housing, and other needs.
School’s Closed, Learning Can Continue!
FCPS encourages students to take advantage of fun learning opportunities during winter break and snow days. Consider these winter activities to blend education and play for your students during winter break or weather-related school closures.
Winter Break (Student Holiday)
As a reminder, winter break will be held Monday, December 23, to Friday, January 3. To help make sure you and your children have a restful break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. Teachers may assign long-range assignments in the weeks ahead of the break, allowing students to practice time management skills, but no assignments will be due immediately following the break. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year.
Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. See the complete school year calendar.

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place where we will post an emergency weather closing. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and plan for childcare if appropriate.
📞 Family Information Phone Lines
FCPS phone lines are available in nine different languages. An FCPS employee will respond to your call in your preferred language within 24 hours, Monday through Friday. Call the phone line with any question about your child’s education or FCPS and someone will help connect you to resources or arrange for you to speak to the appropriate school employee. Learn more about family information phone lines and phone numbers.
News from the Weyanoke PTA
When giving back this holiday season, please consider a direct donation to the Weyanoke ES PTA. We pay for field trips, Staff Appreciation Week treats, the Spelling Bee, Family Fun Night, Career Day, and spirit wear orders. If you would like to give, please go to https://weyanokepta.givebacks.com/store/items/1063881 to make a tax-deductible donation.
The monthly General Membership meeting for the Weyanoke PTA will be on Tuesday, December 10th rather than our normal Thursday. We will be pairing up with the monthly Parent Coffee to celebrate our PTA Reflections winners and to talk about how to do science at home with your student to get ready for the Science Showcase in January.
We would like to welcome Tatiana Ramallo as our new Vice President of Communications! Melanie Morris also moved to PTA President, which means that the Vice President of Programs is now open. If you would like to join the PTA as our new Vice President of Programs, to see how everything works and to give back to our community, please contact Melanie Morris at woodchuckpta.vp@gmail.com.
We are doing one more Spirit Wear order on December 20th, just in time for the cold weather. To order, please go to https://weyanokepta.givebacks.com/store. We have hoodies, sweat pants, and blue long-sleeved t-shirts. We also have lots of t-shirts in stock for the spring.
