Principal's Message

Happy Holiday FSES Community,

This week we are celebrating the holiday spirit each day with a spirit day and grade level holiday festivities. In your child’s take home folder this week, you will see a handout from the school showcasing our year long School Improvement and Innovation Plan. Outlined are our reading, math, and 21st century skills this year. On the back side, we noted our celebrations so far for the 24-25 school year. These items would not be possible without the support of such a strong community.

I truly appreciate your open levels of communication as I have asked to gather information on a survey regarding my leadership as I come up on being your principal for a year. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing the excellence of Franklin Sherman.

I wish you a restful, joyous holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Attendance Is Important Every Day!

Important Reminder: Keep up the great attendance

School is in session until Friday, December 20th & starts back PROMPTLY on Monday, January 6th!!

Set positive habits for the new year. Remember: positive attendance = higher academic achievement + better sense of belonging (more than 10% of the school year missed = chronic absenteeism)

This is a big time of the year for both travel and for sicknesses. Please plan travel accordingly, and refer to the Health Flyer for parents “Can My Child Go To School?” when sick.

If your child is not feeling well, please refer to FCPS guidance on when to keep your child home.

Find more attendance resources.

Reminders

Reporting All Day Absences

FCPS has created clearer guidance for reporting attendance.  Please use  using one of the methods below:

  • ParentVUE: Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, parents or legal guardians can submit up to two consecutive full-day absences using SIS ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE on the FCPS website: fcps.edu/attendance.
  • Call the school's attendance line at 703-506-7979.
  • Email the front office at franklinshermanelem.attendance@fcps.edu. When emailing an absence or tardy, please include your child's first and last name and their teacher's name.

All Day Absences Only: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.

Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please contact the school. Our school's office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
