The SCA (Student Council Association) would love to have as many people as possible join in the holiday spirit. If you're coming to the building next week (parents, too!), join in the fun!
Monday, 12/16: Plaid Day/Pajama Day: Wear plaid, wear pajamas...or wear plaid pajamas! Be sure that all clothing items are school appropriate. No slippers. Tuesday, 12/17: Ugly Sweater: Sparkles, pom-poms, and ribbons galore! Show off your pre-made or homemade “ugly sweater” to celebrate the winter holidays. Please make sure all clothing is school appropriate. Wednesday, 12/18: Dress Like the Holiday You Celebrate: Celebrate your culture by dressing in your winter holiday festive wear. Be sure that you can still fully participate in all areas of school including PE and recess. Thursday, 12/19: Snow Day: Dress up in all white, like SNOW or in your favorite winter festive clothing. Friday, 12/20: Festive Hat Day: Get your student ready to enjoy the concert and sing-a-long by wearing a festive hat today!

The 18th Annual WFES Spelling Bee is coming soon! This Spelling Bee is open to all students in grades 3rd through 6th. It will be held after school on February 13, 2024 and registration is due by Friday, December 13, 2024. The WFES champion will go to the Fairfax County Spelling Bee on March 23, 2025.

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-6 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Tony Gray awgray1@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2024.
The window for families to submit a referral for Full-Time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for Full-Time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Looking for more information on how to support your student at home with Executive Functioning skills such as study strategies, time management, organization, and more? Join us for a cup of coffee and learn more about actionable strategies that you can implement at home to support your child with academic success and independent skills.
Our School Psychologist, Anna Bukont and School Counselor, Chelsea Boateng, will be sharing tips and tricks that can support all students with executive functioning strategies. We will also include specialized tips and tricks for our neuro-divergent students.

All 4th, 5th and 6th graders have been invited to participate in the annual Woodson Pyramid Area Chorus day! The event takes place at Frost Middle School on Saturday, January 11th, 9:45 AM-1PM. Students will learn music from the Frost and Woodson Chorus teachers, play games, sing and be served pizza! It is a fun way to meet students from all over the pyramid and have fun singing together as a community! 📚 Bundle Up With Books Over Break
Fairfax County Public Library’s (FCPL) winter reading adventure has begun and will continue through Friday, January 31, 2025. Visit your local FCPL library branch or visit their website to register and get a sneak peek at the prizes being offered.
Check out their Winter Reading Events webpage to learn about laser tag, movie nights, crafting sessions, Noon-Year Eve celebrations, and book discussions.

MIND Research is hosting family math week January 13 - January 17, 2025. During that time, students are encouraged to log onto the FCPS Family Math website to engage in math activities with their families at home that include stories with mathematical concepts connected to a variety of different math games from around the world. All activities are available in English and Spanish.
To learn more about Family Math Nights, check out this video. We hope that all schools will help spread the word and work collaboratively to help us reach our goal of logging on for three million minutes as an FCPS community.
Information will be available through the Elementary Schoology groups for teachers to easily copy over materials and links for students to participate with their families during math week in the New Year.
