Dear Stenwood Families,
It has been an exciting week in the Hive! Our 3rd graders enjoyed a trip to the Natural History Museum where they were able to make connections to their science and social studies learning. We honored students who show Empathy to their teachers and classmates with a CARES Pizza Lunch.
And today, the beloved tradition of Battle of the Books took place. You would be hard pressed to find a room with more excitement than the cafeteria during Battle of the Books. And to have all that excitement be about BOOKS? That’s amazing! The books for the spring battle were shared and we know that some of our Stingers will start to read them over the break! Here is a link where you can view the entire event! The Passcode is: Battle2024!
As we approach next week, we want to remind everyone that attendance is really important. The State of Virginia considers being out of school for any more than 10% of the school year to be concerning. 10% averages out to just two days a month. We ask that you keep this in mind if you are scheduling any trips that would impact your child attending school. If you have a trip that will impact school attendance before or after winter break, please let the office know by emailing, stenwoodelem.attendance@fcps.edu.
We will be having our next Hive Family Meeting on Friday, Dec. 20th. If you need to pick your child up early on the 20th, please make sure to pick them up by 2:00 PM. We have paired all of our Hive Family meetings with SCA Spirit Days - this month will be PJ Day!

Parent Conferences
We encourage open communication between families and teachers. While there is one scheduled conference at the end of the first quarter, if you have concerns, you can always request a conference with your child’s teacher. We ask that you do not have an impromptu conference in the hallway, on the playground, or even in a local store. We want to make sure that our teachers are able to come to a conversation about your child be prepared with the information needed to update you on your child’s progress and/or address your concerns.
Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Full-Time Services Referral Deadline
The Full-Time Services Referral deadline is December 15th, though Mrs. Hartman would love families who are planning to refer to turn them in December 9th - 13th if not before to ensure she has enough time to review that all required parts have been submitted before winter break begins.
You can find the Referral Form and Parent/Guardian Questionnaire here:
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/advanced-academic-programs-aap/forms-advanced-academic-program-aap
Referrals and optional materials are due no later than December 15th. Mrs. Hartman prefers to receive materials December 9th-13th or earlier to allow her ample time to review the materials and notify parents of any additional information needed or errors found.
- You may email Full-Time referrals and optional materials directly to Kaleigh Hartman at kkhartman@fcps.edu in one email. Hard copies are also accepted.
- You will receive a confirmation email within 1-2 business days.
Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon
One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is through the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. In October, students in grades 3-12 took this screener, which gives information about their skills such as achieving goals, handling emotions, building relationships with adults and peers, and making good choices.
The screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create learning, experiences, and environments for students to succeed.
In early December, families will be able to view student SEL Screener results in SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent by mail.
Learn more about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For help understanding your child’s results or ideas to support them at home, review the Family Guide or contact us.
Register for ParentVUE Learn how to activate your ParentVUE account, so you can easily access your child’s results and other helpful information.
