Navy Update 12.8.24

Good evening, Navy Families,

It has been a wonderful first week as Navy’s interim principal.  It is a pleasure to align with such a supportive faculty, staff, and community.  The welcoming spirit has been evident through the parents’ greetings at kiss and ride, the faculty and staff’s friendly and helpful approach, and the students “waves and hellos” in the hallways. I look forward to getting to know the students as they study, learn, and grow in this positive environment.

Thanks to all for your kindness,

Mrs. E. A. Lancaster

Navy Interim Principal

Kiss and Ride Reminder

Kiss and Ride Reminder

Dear Navy Families,

With the cold weather, there are many families opting to drive students to school, rather than having students ride their assigned buses. If you are using the Kiss and Ride entrance to bring your child to school, please know that students cannot be dropped off prior to 8:25 am or after 8:50 am. The doors will be locked promptly at 8:50am at the Kiss and Ride entrance.   If the doors are locked, please either walk or drive your child around to the front entrance and check-in your child.  We plan to support this long-established time schedule beginning Dec. 16th upon arrival. This is important for the safety and attendance of your child/ren.  You will want to monitor you timing during the next week, to be sure that students arrive on time when using Kiss and Ride.

Parents, also be mindful that parents are not permitted to enter from West Ox Road to drop off students.  This entrance should only be used for staff members to ensure that they are ready to meet and greet your child upon arrival.

Thank you for your kind consideration as we keep our students safe.

4th Grade Strings Concert

🎻🎵 4th Grade strings students will have their concert on Tuesday, December 10th at Franklin Middle School. Students should arrive at 6:30pm, the concert will start at 7:00pm.  Students should wear black and white. There will be an audience participation portion for our 4th grade concert.  Be ready to learn 🙂!

A Message from Our PE Teachers...

Just a friendly reminder to ensure your child(ren) wears sneakers or tennis shoes for PE classes. Wearing the right shoes is important for safety, and repeated instances of wearing non-PE shoes can affect their participation and grade. We appreciate your understanding and support in helping your child stay active and safe during PE!

Thank you,
PE Department

Reminder:  Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15, 2024

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for Full-Time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Kristen Scudder at kascudder@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2024.

The window for families to submit a referral for Full-Time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for Full-Time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for Full-Time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for Full-Time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Kristen Scudder at kascudder@fcps.edu.

Referrals for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss this deadline, your student can still be screened for Subject-Specific AAP or Part-Time AAP for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for Full-Time AAP next fall.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website.
