Yesterday, a group of Weyanoke students visited Senator Mark Warner's office to help him decorate his office Christmas tree. The children decorated using hand-made ornaments created by their classmates. The Senator's staff then treated our Woodchucks to milk and cookies, and a tour of parts of the Hart Senate Office Building. Our field trip also included our FCPS School Board Representative, Dr. Ricardy Anderson.
Boundary Review Community Meeting
Community meetings regarding FCPS’ comprehensive boundary review will take place in each of the division's six regions. You are encouraged to attend the meeting in our region, which will take place on Thursday, December 12, 6:45-8:15 p.m., at Annandale High School Cafeteria.
Please register in advance by clicking on the date. Language interpretation will be available.
If you are unable to attend on this date, view the full list of meetings on the Comprehensive School Boundary Review webpage.
Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Art Contest
We are excited to announce that this summer we will be providing no-cost meals through our mobile summer feeding bus! When the school year ends, many children in our community lose access to reliable meals. While some locations offer free meals over the summer, many kids who lack transportation are left without food. Our mobile bus aims to solve this issue by bringing nutritious meals directly to the neighborhoods of children in need.
To make this project successful, we would greatly appreciate the support of our students, particularly those participating in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. We invite your school to join an art contest, where the winning artwork will be displayed outside our bus. Students are encouraged to create drawings of fruits and vegetables or to illustrate their interpretation of healthy eating.
If your child is interested in participating, please submit all artwork to their art teacher by January 31st.

The presentation includes five options for adjusting middle school start times based on the consultant’s analysis from community forums, surveys, and interviews with staff, parents, associations, and other groups. The School Board will provide next steps to the superintendent.

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather
Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place where we will post an emergency weather closing. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and plan for childcare if appropriate.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Available
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of October, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results have been sent via postal mail.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.
Winter Break (Student Holiday)
As a reminder, winter break will be held Monday, December 23, to Friday, January 3. To help make sure you and your children have a restful break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. Teachers may assign long-range assignments in the weeks ahead of the break, allowing students to practice time management skills, but no assignments will be due immediately following the break. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year.
Classes resume on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. See the complete school year calendar.
