Oak Hill students at the US Capitol

Our Young Scholars were treated to a private Capitol tour last week. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Government Unit in Benchmark.

Toy Drive Donations Due by 12/13

Oak Hill's Student Council is collecting new unwrapped toys or comfort items for Inova Children's Hospital.  Last day for donations is Friday, December 13th.   Check the  Amazon wishlist for suggested donations.

*Last Call for Cereal Box Dominos on Dec. 13th! 

The PTA is collecting unopened cereal boxes from December 9th to 13th to place in our domino chain throughout the school. All cereal will be donated to Cornerstones to help our community. 

 

*Winter Online Spiritwear Sale

Oak Hill Spiritwear is available online.  Items purchased will be delivered on Mondays to your child's classroom. 

 

*Spelling Bee

*First Lego League

Congratulations to the Oakhill Orcas team on securing 3rd place in the Virginia + DC State Championship of the First LEGO League, held at JMU, VA, on December 6th. These remarkable kids are on a mission to protect our oceans and create a brighter future for eve ry child. Team members of the Oak Hill Orcas include Nevan, Nathaniel, Saicharan, Miraaya, Shruti, and Hasini.

*Update on Potential Changes to Middle School Start Times

Watch a video of Tuesday’s School Board work session. Staff from Prismatic Services, Inc., presented options for adjusting start times at FCPS middle schools. As a reminder, Prismatic is charged with developing an action plan to help the School Board reach its goal of starting middle school at or after 8 a.m.

The presentation includes five options for adjusting middle school start times based on the consultant’s analysis from community forums, surveys, and interviews with staff, parents, associations, and other groups. The School Board will provide next steps to the superintendent.

Full-Time AAP Applications Due Sunday, 12/15

Required: Parents in grades 2-6 who wish to refer to their children for level IV for the 2025-26 school year need to complete the AAP Full Time Referral Form and sign it. 

Optional Documents:

1.  Questionnaire  Parent Questionnaire (with ratings circled, examples underneath, and signature)  

2. Two pages of Student Work Samples (PDF only..no animated files)

The referral form and optional documents are due electronically to Cathy Lahr at cclahr@fcps.edu by Sunday, December 15th.   Please attach all documents in one email using separate attachments. Please put "Child's Name AAP Referral in the subject line. No late referrals will be accepted.
