A Message from Ms. Consolla

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.  We will return to school on Monday, December 2 ready to continue with our learning together.  As the holiday season continues, please plan to make sure your children are in school every day that they are not sick. We will be learning new content daily and want to make sure your children have the benefit of these experiences each day.

December can be both joyous and stressful for some families. There are many events and traditions to juggle while still making sure you are taking care of your daily needs. Should your family need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to Jenny Baker, our school social worker. She has extensive knowledge about resources in our community that can help.

As always, thank you for your partnership with us at Fort Hunt.

Picture Re-Takes on Wednesday

There will be a make-up Picture Day on the morning of Wednesday, December 4 for those that were absent on the October date. If you are requesting a re-take, your child must bring the pre-ordered original picture packet you received to turn in. If you didn't pre-order pictures, there is nothing to turn in.

To order pictures, please go to www.mylifetouch.com and enter your student’s ID OR the Picture Day ID: EVTP99KKR

Pictures will be sent home once we receive them at school.

Advanced Academics Screening Deadline

Families with students in grades 2-6 that may be interested in referring their child for full-time advanced academic services for the 2024-25 school year should complete a referral by the deadline of 11:59pm Sunday, December 15, 2024.

For more information on full-time AAP and the continuum of services, please refer to the AAP website: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs

Referral forms and the optional parent questionnaire may be found through this link: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/advanced-academic-programs-aap/forms-advanced-academic-program-aap

What are full time advanced academic services?

  • In grades 3-8, some advanced learners need a full-time advanced academic program with rigorous, differentiated instruction in all four core content areas (Language Arts, mathematics, social studies, and science). These students are clustered on a full-time basis.
  • All decisions regarding full-time placement in Full-Time AAP program are made through a central screening committee of educators from across FCPS. Full-Time services continue through Grade 8, and students do not need to be evaluated each year.

Eligibility decisions will be emailed to families in early April.

If you have any questions about screening and the continuum of services please contact Preshion Lynch, Advanced Academic Resource Teacher at pmlynch@fcps.edu.

School Boundary Review

As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.

Fort Hunt is in Region 3. The meeting to learn and share input for our region will be on Monday, December 9 at 6:30pm at Mount Vernon HS.

Please visit FCPS’ website for meeting dates, locations, and other information. Sign up for the School Boundary Review newsletter for updates.

Literacy Resources for Families Webpage

A new Literacy Resources for Families webpage has been published to the external web to provide families with information about how to support their children with developing literacy knowledge and skills at home. It provides valuable information about the reading and writing resources to be used at home, the VALLSS, Reading Plans, guidance for Parent Teacher Conferences, and training available through the Family Academy.

holiday market

The deadline to register for a booth is next Friday, December 6.

Grade 6 will also be hosting their annual Pancake Breakfast at the Holiday Market. For more information about the market and how to order a plate for the breakfast, visit the PTA website.

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather

We actually saw snowflakes last Friday which mean winter weather is HERE! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.

If there is a two-delay, what time can I drop off my child at Fort Hunt?

The earliest drop-off is 10:30am. There is no supervision before this time, and no student should be dropped off or arrive at school before this time.

Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, please call Fairfax County's Coordinated Services Planning at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health care.
