Updated Transportation Information

Effective January 6, 2025, on two-hour early release days, temporary transportation changes must be received by 12:30 p.m. and students may not be checked out after 1:00 p.m.

On three-hour early release days, temporary transportation changes must be received by 11:30 a.m., and students may not be checked out after 12:00 p.m.

And as a reminder, on normal school days, temporary transportation changes must be received by 2:30 p.m., and students may not be checked out after 3:00 p.m.

Temporary transportation changes must be made through the online transportation form.

As it gets closer to dismissal time, it is very challenging trying to reach teachers for last minute transportation changes, and safety is our number one concern as we want to be sure that we are sending all students home in the correct way. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Don't forget your ID!

We are happy to see you and glad when you come to attend a program, volunteer, or have lunch with your child. Please remember to bring your ID with you EACH time you come to school. This is a safety and security issue and, even if you are here on a regular basis, we still need to see an ID each time. Thank you for understanding and helping us to keep everyone in our building safe.

SCA Spirit Week - December 16-20

Spirit Week December 2024

Warming Tree

The Student Council Association (SCA) Warming Tree is set up near the front door of Hayfield Elementary.  You may send donations in with your child for them to deliver to the tree or stop in the front office to drop off items during school office hours.  Donations can also be brought to the PTA Holiday Market tonight.

Gift Card Donation Drive

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the holiday season already! We know that this time is exciting for many but can also be very challenging and stressful for some families within our community. In the past, we have been able to support many of our Hayfield families during this time due to the kind donations from our community! On November 18th, we began collecting donations for gift cards to big box stores/grocery stores (ex: Walmart, Target, Aldi, Giant, Amazon) until December 18th. Please send in any donations with your student in an envelope marked “Holiday Donations” to be given to your student’s teacher or dropped at the front office. You may also bring donations to the PTA Holiday Market tonight.

We will ensure these donations go to support our direct community and support our families in having a very happy holiday season!  We appreciate you all so much as you help us make this a memorable season for all of our Hayfield community.

Thank you,
Hayfield Elementary School Counselors

Cold Weather Clothing Assistance

Winter Weather

If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, you may call the school office at (703)924-4500 and ask to speak with Mr. Herston Phillips, Social Worker, or email Marily Grotz, Family Liaison, at mgrotz@fcps.edu.  You may also contact Koinonia which is a non-profit organization that supports families in our community.  For families outside Franconia/Springfield area, you may contact Fairfax County's Coordinated Services Planning at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health care.

Boundary Review Community Meeting

Community meetings regarding FCPS’ comprehensive boundary review are taking place in each of the division's six regions. You are encouraged to attend the meeting in our region, which will take place on Thursday, December 12, 6:45-8:15 p.m., at Annandale High School (Cafeteria). If you are unable to attend on this date, view the full list of meetings on the Comprehensive School Boundary Review webpage.

Please register in advance by clicking on the date. Language interpretation will be available.

Full-Time Advanced Academics Referrals (grades 2-6)

Full-Time Services Checklist for Families

For parents interested in referring their child for full-time AAP services, the following documents need to be submitted to AART Avery Rothman (agrothman@fcps.edu) on or before December 15, 2024. Late submissions cannot be accepted.

  • Full Time Referral Form - REQUIRED (Translated Versions Available)
  • Parent Questionnaire – Optional, but Recommended (Translated Versions Available)
  • A Maximum of 2 pages of work samples (digital scans) - Optional
  • Additional testing information – Optional

Submitting a referral form for full-time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of trained professionals will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted, after they have been turned in for central selection, by emailing Avery Rothman (agrothman@fcps.edu).

Please see the Full-Time Services Checklist for Families for further guidance, and contact Avery Rothman (agrothman@fcps.edu) with any questions.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website.

Some experience preparing taxes is recommended and additional training will be provided. You can have a big impact!  Last year, volunteers helped secure a total federal tax refund amount of $2,888,787 across 2,151 returns. Learn more about the VITA program.
