Hello Forest Edge Families and Community!
Happy Thanksgiving Week! 🦃
This time of year is an opportunity to reflect on all that we are thankful for, and our school community is certainly at the top of that list. Families, your support, involvement, and dedication to our school make all the difference. Whether it's volunteering your time, supporting your child’s learning, or partnering with us to create a nurturing environment, you help build the foundation for our students' success.
As we celebrate this season of thanks, I hope you take time to enjoy the company of loved ones and find moments of peace and joy. Together, we are creating something special for our children—a community that values kindness, hard work, and the power of learning.
Thank you for everything you do to support our school. Wishing you and your family a wonderful, restful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving.
Have a safe and joyful holiday! 🥧🍂
Dr. Brittany Rogers, Principal
Mrs. Ashley Fisher, Assistant Principal
Our next Early Release Monday is on Monday, December 9th, with students being dismissed at 12:35 PM.
We will follow the information provided in the previous survey regarding how students will get home. If you need to update your child’s dismissal plan, please email or message their teacher via TalkingPoints.
Mark your calendars! Mrs. Hanson will be hosting an AAP Referral Workshop to guide parents through the AAP Referral Process, including tips for completing the referral form, parent questionnaire, and selecting potential home work samples. Join us on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM in the Forest Edge Elementary Cafeteria. This is a great opportunity to get all your questions answered before the AAP Referral Deadline on December 15th. We look forward to supporting you in this important step for your child!
Here is an overall review of what to expect.
- Any student wishing to have a retake should bring their original picture package to exchange for the retake image.
- When an order is placed online, the parent/guardian will receive a camera pass via email. This can be printed and brought to picture day. The photographer will photograph the printed camera pass along with the student.
- If a student is not able to print their camera pass, that is not a problem. We will match up the student to their order manually in the production process.
- A parent may order from the flyer up until 24 hours after picture day. After 24 hours, the online ordering access may close. This will allow our imaging team to "Pull" all orders submitted and match them with the students photographed.
- When pictures are returned to school, all students that purchased pictures will receive their prepaid package. Any student that was photographed but did not order a package, will receive a "Proof" (PX) of their picture that was taken on picture day.
All proof packages offer parents a second opportunity to order prints. All orders are subject to shipping and handling costs of up to $8.50 and will be shipped directly to home.

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.
Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, please call Fairfax County's Coordinated Services Planning at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health care. You can also contact our Social Worker, Catherine Campane, or our Family Liaisions, Natalia Wyatt and Huda Osman, at 703-925-8000.
Community meetings regarding FCPS’ comprehensive boundary review will take place in each of the division's six regions. You are encouraged to attend the meeting in our region, which will take place onWednesday, December 18, 6:30-8 p.m., at Madison High School Cafeteria.
Please register in advance by clicking on the date. Language interpretation will be available.
If you are unable to attend on this date, view the full list of meetings on the Comprehensive School Boundary Review webpage.
