A Message from Ms. Kirkland
Next week is a holiday for staff and students from Wednesday, November 27- 29. Monday and Tuesday are full days of learning for our students, and we are excited to welcome them! Some grade levels are finishing up units in math and taking their unit assessments before they begin new learning right after the break. Please be sure that you are sending your children to school every day unless they are sick so they can benefit from the great learning happening every day.
The holiday season can be both joyous and stressful for families. There are many events and traditions to juggle while still making sure you are taking care of your daily needs. Should your family need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to Shannon Southard, our school social worker. She has extensive knowledge about resources in our community that can help.
I will be joining my family over the break to give thanks, and will be counting this community as one of many blessings. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to lead this amazing staff and to serve you and your children. I hope that you enjoy a safe and warm holiday.

🔔 Morning Arrival Reminder
At Mount Eagle, parents are welcome to walk their children to classrooms every morning. Please remember that all Grade 1 & 2 students should enter through the Garden Door (Door #3). Do not walk into the modular building by walking through the driveway. We have many maintenance vehicles that drive through this space, and staff are not posted to ensure a safe walking route.
If you are not able to walk through the front of the building, parents are also welcome to drop students at Kiss n Ride in the mornings. Staff are posted along the front walkway to ensure that students walk safely to the correct entrance.
Thank you for following these routes to ensure a safe school arrival every day!

Boundary Review
As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.

📖 Advanced Academics Screening
Families with students in grades 2-6 that may be interested in referring their child for full time advanced academic services for the 2024-25 school year should complete a referral by the deadline of Dec. 15, 2024.

What are full time advanced academic services?
- In grades 3-8, some advanced learners need a full-time advanced academic program with rigorous, differentiated instruction in all four core content areas (Language Arts, mathematics, social studies, and science) and students are clustered on a full-time basis.
- All decisions regarding full-time placement in Full-Time AAP program are made through a central screening committee of educators from across FCPS.. Full-Time services continue through Grade 8 and students do not need to be evaluated each year.
Eligibility decisions will be sent April 3-4

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon
One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is through the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. In October, students in grades 3-12 took this screener, which gives information about their skills such as achieving goals, handling emotions, building relationships with adults and peers, and making good choices.
The screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create learning, experiences, and environments for students to succeed.
In early December, families will be able to view student SEL Screener results in SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent by mail.

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
