Navy Update 11.24.24

Navy Families,

As we head into Thanksgiving, our hearts are full of gratitude for the vibrant energy in our school community. This week, we’ve enjoyed the beautiful melodies of a strings rehearsal, welcomed a couple of special guests on WNES, and celebrated our Girls on the Run team after their big race this weekend. From joyful smiles in the hallways to moments of teamwork and creativity, it’s clear we have so much to be thankful for.

I have truly enjoyed the last couple of weeks at Navy and feel we have positive momentum as we head into the holidays. Like I said in another message, this staff is incredibly hardworking and committed to the children at Navy. Students are spirited, driven and proud to be Navy Dolphins.  Mrs. Lancaster will be joining Team Navy when we return from Thanksgiving break. I will work closely with her to ease the transition for staff, students, and families. I will also continue to support Mrs. Lancaster and the staff as we navigate this transition time.

Thankfully,

Lindsay Trout

A reminder: there will be no school Wednesday through Friday. Wishing all our families a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Cell Phone and Watch Policy

We wanted to remind families about the cell phone and smart watch policy. We ask that you help us keep classrooms focused on teaching and learning without the distractions of phones and watches. If you need to get a message to your child, please call the main office and we will get them any information they need. Thank you in advance!

FCPS policy,:

-Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.

-Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

-Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.

🧣❄️ Let’s spread some winter warmth! The Navy SCA is partnering again with She Believes In Me for a Winter Accessories Drive aimed at supporting local families as we enter colder weather.🧤❤️  From December 2nd to 20th, we encourage donations of new or gently worn winter items such as coats, hats, gloves, socks, and scarves. Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is through the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. In October, students in grades 3-12 took this screener, which gives information about their skills such as achieving goals, handling emotions, building relationships with adults and peers, and making good choices.

The screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create learning, experiences, and environments for students to succeed.

In early December, families will be able to view student SEL Screener results in SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent by mail.

Learn more about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For help understanding your child’s results or ideas to support them at home, review the Family Guide or contact your child’s school.

Full-Time AAP Screening

All students in Grades 2-7 may be screened by referral for the full-time advanced academic program. The referral window is open from the first day of school through December 15, annually. Do not wait for test scores or the universal screener referral (second grade only). No referrals for full-time screening will be accepted after the spring screening deadline of December 15, annually. The referral form and optional parent-guardian questionnaire can be found on the FCPS AAP Identification and Placement for Current FCPS Students. Contact Kristen Scudder, Navy’s AART, or view the FCPS Full-Time Academic Programs Services Identification Procedures website for more information.
