Dear Glasgow Family,
Earlier this school year, we experienced a significant disruption to our day when a false threat was posted to social media and shared around the community. As a result, many parents came to pick up students early from school. After the event, we gathered feedback and our own observations of the day and refined our emergency release plans in partnership with Assistant Superintendent for Region 2, Megan Vroman. Below are some updates or clarifications on our process.
Communication to the community:
Clear communication to our parents/caregivers that a photo ID is required for student pick up. If the parent is not the adult picking up the student(s), the person coming to pick up the student(s) must also have a proper photo ID and be on the Emergency Care Card.
Both texts and emails will be sent to parents/caregivers and staff with updates on the situation at the school.
Process parents/caregivers will need to follow if they come to school to pick their student up early:
- Enter the parking lot from either Fairfax Parkway or Conrad Road.
- The parking lot entrance (near the Glasgow marquee) to the bus loop will not be available for cars to enter.
- There will be security in the parking lot directing the traffic flow.
- Parent/caregivers will be provided the Parent/Student Reunification Form (PSRF) that will need to be filled out.
- Bi-lingual staff will be on-site to support parents/caregivers in completing the form.
- Parents/caregivers must have a proper photo ID.
- If someone other than the parent/caregivers picks up a student, they must have a photo ID and be listed on the Emergency Care Card.
- Parents will follow staff direction to DOOR #7 (NOTE: Door #1 will NOT be utilized)
- Staff members will re-unify each student with their parent/caregiver at DOOR #7.
- Parents will then exit the school grounds via the bus loop entrance, which will have staff there directing traffic.
Staff Roles:
- Staff have been assigned specific roles.
- Staff are assigned to the parking lot to support the flow of traffic to Door #7.
- Bi-lingual staff are assigned to the parking lot to support parents/caregivers in completing the Parent/Student Reunification Form (PSRF).
- Staff will bring students from class to door 7 to re-unify with their parent/caregiver.
- Staff members in the front office will have the sole responsibility answering phone calls.
- Staff will monitor door #3 (which will be locked) to ensure students from the modulars can access the main building.
- Assistant principals will be in the parking lot and will communicate with staff assigned to retrieve students from their classroom. This will ensure that students are at Door 7 for pick-up.
Respectively,
Deirdre Lavery
Interim Principal
