Dear Stenwood Families,
We are continuing to buzz in the 2nd quarter here in the Hive. We are excited for next week with our Book Fair in the library and our annual Thanksgiving Lunch!
This week, 1st Grade students visited the Hidden Oaks Nature Center on Tuesday. They enjoyed the animals, puppet show, and playground.
Our 2nd Grade Stingers went to EC Lawrence Park on Wednesday. They learned about some of the histories and traditions of Native Americans in the Northern Virginia area.
Today, we had our CARES Pizza Lunch celebrating students who have shown Responsibility in their classes. We always enjoy celebrating our Stingers!
Please see the final reminder below about Thanksgiving Lunch volunteers for next Thursday. We do still have many volunteer needs to help to ensure that this beloved Stenwood event runs smoothly.

2024 Thanksgiving Lunch Volunteers and Reminders
Stenwood’s Annual Thanksgiving Lunch will take place next Thursday, November 21st. We have many slots that still need volunteers.
Please sign up using this link. Volunteers will be helping with visitor check-in and meal serving. Do not sign up during your child’s lunch block. Please also do not plan to have younger siblings with you if you are volunteering.
If you did not RSVP, but would like to attend, please feel free to bring your own lunch and join your child. Please remember that anyone (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) will need a valid ID to sign in to the building. If you have previously signed in this year and RSVPed, you will be checked in at the front or back door and will not need to sign in on the VMS. All new guests will need to be checked in at the front office using the VMS.
Please remember parking is available behind the school in neighborhood. We work with the Fairfax County Police Department to have permission to park during large events. Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block driveways or crosswalks.
Boundary Review Community Meetings Update
Community meetings regarding FCPS’ comprehensive boundary review will take place in each of the division's six regions. You are encouraged to attend the meeting in our region, which will take place on Monday, December 2nd, 6:30-8 p.m., at Westfield High School Cafeteria. The meetings for Region 2 and Region 6 are in locations closer to Stenwood, Glasgow Middle School on Monday, November 18th from 6:30 - 8pm and Annandale High School on Thursday, December 12th from 6:45 - 8:15pm.
Please register in advance by clicking on the date. Language interpretation will be available.
If you are unable to attend on this date, view the full list of meetings on the Comprehensive School Boundary Review webpage.
Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Full-Time Services Referral Deadline
The Full-Time Services Referral deadline is December 15th, though Mrs. Hartman would love families who are planning to refer to turn them in December 9th - 13th if not before to ensure she has enough time to review that all required parts have been submitted before winter break begins.
You can find the Referral Form and Parent/Guardian Questionnaire here:
https://www.fcps.edu/academics/advanced-academic-programs-aap/forms-advanced-academic-program-aap
Referrals and optional materials are due no later than December 15th. Mrs. Hartman prefers to receive materials December 9th-13th or earlier to allow her ample time to review the materials and notify parents of any additional information needed or errors found.
- You may email Full-Time referrals and optional materials directly to Kaleigh Hartman at kkhartman@fcps.edu in one email. Hard copies are also accepted.
- You will receive a confirmation email within 1-2 business days.
The Fall Book Fair is Coming!
|
|
The Stenwood Library is holding its Fall Book Fair next week. Students will be able to browse the fair and make a wish list on Monday and Tuesday, then be able to buy books on Wednesday through Friday. Since the Thanksgiving lunch is on Thursday, parents are invited to bring their child to the book fair to purchase books after lunch is over. We ask that you wait until the teacher picks up the class, so that the teacher knows where students are. |
If you want to avoid the crush of Thursday, parents (and their students) are invited to shop in person after school. The book fair will be open after school Tuesday from 3:30 - 5:00pm. This is the only day we’ll be open after school. Please note: You will need to enter the library from door 8 on the playground and come directly into the library from the back.
And if you’d like to volunteer at the fair, please check out our Sign Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044DA8AC2DA46-52600711-2024#/
As always, please contact Mrs. Cole with any questions you might have.
