Friday was a beautiful day for our annual flag planting ceremony in honor of Veterans Day. Thank you to all the veterans who attended and then visited our classrooms to share about their service. Students and staff were so excited to both learn and have an opportunity to say thank you for their service.

A Message from Ms. Consolla
Last week I shared about our language arts curriculum. Since then, FCPS has added a new Literacy Resources for Families webpage to provide families with information about how to support their children with developing literacy knowledge and skills at home. It provides valuable information about the reading and writing resources to be used at home, the VALLSS, Reading Plans, guidance for Parent Teacher Conferences, and training available through the Family Academy.
Our Thanksgiving Luncheon (see photo below) kicked off a new opportunity for families to join their student for lunch on Fridays. Beginning Friday, November 15, we'll host "Family Fridays" where parents/guardians can join their student for lunch in the cafeteria. Please take a moment to review the expectations below.
Finally, we have so many amazing staff members at Fort Hunt, both inside and outside the classroom. I encourage you to take a moment to recognize them using the Outstanding Employee nomination process. Links are in the article below, and the deadline to make a nomination is on Wednesday.
As always, thank you for your partnership with us at Fort Hunt.

Wow! Our Thanksgiving Luncheon was fabulous. Happy smiles were everywhere especially on students who enjoyed being served their turkey lunch at the table like a restaurant. Thank you to both staff and families that made this a success with the set-up on Thursday, with taking a serving shift and with the clean-up. This event captured what Fort Hunt is all about: community.
Advanced Academics Info Meeting This Week
This week, over 70 community members joined us on Zoom to learn about the ways we deliver Advanced Academic services at Fort Hunt and in FCPS. Beginning next year, full-time cluster services will be offered for eligible students (current 2nd graders who will be in 3rd grade next school year).
A second meeting specifically focused on the Full-time Cluster service referral process will be held in November. While all caregivers are welcome to attend, only current Grade 2-6 students are eligible to go through the referral process this school year.
-
Wednesday, November 13; 6:30-7:15pm on Zoom (Link will be sent out to all families that morning.)
If you have questions about these events, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Preshion Lynch at pmlynch@fcps.edu.
School Boundary Review
As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.
Fort Hunt is in Region 3. The meeting to learn and share input for our region will be on December 9 at 6:30pm at Mount Vernon HS.
Please visit FCPS’ website for meeting dates, locations, and other information. Sign up for the School Boundary Review newsletter for updates.
Federal Impact Aid Survey - DUE NOW
Please be sure to sign in your SIS ParentVUE account to complete this important survey. One survey is needed for each student! Please complete the survey form by November 11th.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is eligible for federal Impact Aid grants due to the federal presence in our area. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget. They are critical to ensuring that students receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $4,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.
FCPS uses the survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students. The survey is available online through ParentVue. FCPS staff will process the information with the utmost confidentiality. Any family who has not completed the survey online will receive a paper copy after November 12th. PLEASE complete the survey online to help us save the paper! If you would like to complete it on your phone, Ms. Dobarco, our Student Information Assistant, can help with this. She can be reached at 703-619-2600.

Family Fridays at Lunch
Each Friday, family members may join their student in the cafeteria for lunch. Please note the following expectations:
- Sign-in at the office and pick up a flier with the expectations & lunch times.
- Sit only at the designated "Family Friday" tables in the cafeteria with your student. Other classmates may not join in nor can siblings who have a different lunch time be called to leave their class to join you.
- The visit is for the cafeteria only. Please say good-bye to your student when they leave the cafeteria. Exit through the main lobby door.
- No soda or fast food for the student. It is distracting for classmates who see the student having food that is not permitted at their lunch.
- Use courteous and respectful language at all times. If you see what you perceive as misbehavior with students, allow Fort Hunt staff members to address it.
- And finally, all children struggle at one time or another for a variety of reasons, and parents might observe that during their lunch visit. Thank you for showing grace and support for all of our students.
As with any new procedure, we may make adjustments as needed. Thank you for your support!
