Greetings White Oaks Families,
We have adjusted our leadership responsibilities now that Kathy Quigley is on the team. Mrs. Klena will continue to oversee school operations and the instructional program Pre-School through 6th grade and work with the team leaders for all grade level teams. Ms. Quigley will be our special education administrator and she will supervise, and support 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade. Ms. Jimenez will continue to oversee the testing program and supervise and support Kindergarten, 1st, and 4th grades. We are available to meet with our parents and guardians when needed and encourage you to call or email if you have questions, suggestions, or concerns.

Monday, November 18th is a 3-hour early release for staff training. Students will be dismissed at 1:05. We encourage all parents/caregivers to have their student take their normal route home (bus, walk, kiss and ride) on early dismissal days. While these are designated as early release days — where necessary, we will ensure that every student has supervised activities at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family.
For the upcoming early release on 11/18 we will ask each family to let us know their plan for dismissal for 11/18 and the remaining 3-hour early closing days this year. Each parent or guardian will receive an email asking for this information during the coming week. Please respond so that we have a safe and orderly dismissal on 11/18. Remaining 3-hour early closings are 11/18, 2/10, 3/10, 4/21, and 5/12. If we do not hear from parents by 11/14 regarding plans for 11/18, students cannot be released at 1:05 and parents will need to check students out in the main office after 1:20.
During the adjusted school day on 11/18, students will not have band and strings for this time. We will alternate these specials for each 3-hour early closing and on the next early closing (2/10) we will have band and strings specials. For students who are staying for supervision after the 1:05 dismissal, our FCPS Food Services is now providing snacks and students will go to the cafeteria to pick up snacks with their group at 1:30. Other activities for students will be recess, reading, recreation, and computer time.
Our school grounds, fields, and playground are in use on the early release days for our students and staff who are staying until 4:05. Families and children who have already been dismissed should not be on the playground or fields when we are still in session.
Students who were absent on Fall Picture Day or who are new to White Oaks will have an opportunity to have pictures taken on 11/14. Teachers will send students according to a schedule. Students can also have a retake done on 11/14 and will need to return the original package to the photographer for the retake option.
Your PTA reapplied for our School of Excellence designation. Now, we NEED your valuable feedback. Please take a moment to complete the baseline survey which will help us gather information to guide our decisions this year. Thank you for your partnership this year and continuing to grow with us!

Help your White Oaks PTA while doing nothing -- just sit in your favorite armchair! We hope you have seen the value that your PTA brings to our community. You can send a check to the school payable to White Oaks PTA (preferred for large donations), contact a board member to donate cash, or donate online. Our goal is to raise $10,000 and we cannot do it without your support! This is our main fundraiser to collect money for community needs like helping our teachers get upgraded technology for their classrooms, providing meals on teacher workdays and hosting fun events like movie nights. Please visit PT Board to see more examples of the wonderful things your money does for your school. Thank you!
