Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.

Have you completed your Impact Aid Form? All families should complete the form whether you are a military family or not. The form is accessible through your SIS ParentVUE account under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). The form directly affects federal money given to Fairfax County Public Schools so please complete it as soon as possible. Our goal is 100% responses from our families. The amount of money received from the U.S. Department of Education is based on families that have a military connection, home addresses on federal property or work performed on federal property.
If you’ve already filled out your form thank you for your support. If we haven’t received yours electronically, we’ll be printing hard copies of the form next week and sending them home with your student to fill out and return. If you have any questions contact Sue Holmes at ksholmes@fcps.edu.
For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Wakefield Forest Elementary has been selected to participate in a pilot program for the FCPS Student Experience Survey. This survey will gather important feedback from students about their school experiences to help FCPS make meaningful improvements.
Some students in grades 3-6 will be selected to participate. However, all students in participating grades, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email. We will administer the survey in selected classes during STEAM between Monday, December 2, and Friday, December 13. Any student may take the survey at home, if preferred.
We believe it's important to hear from our students about what we're doing well and where we can improve. This work also aligns with the five equity commitments in FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which focus on amplifying student voice and experiences as we work toward meeting plan goals.

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
Learn more about Lightspeed Parent Reports.
Learn more about Lexia® Core5 and Lexia® PowerUp at a parent information night. Discover how FCPS uses Lexia in classrooms to support students’ literacy growth. Presenters will also share tips for improving your child’s literacy. Sessions will take place:
- Tuesday, November 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
- Thursday, December 5, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Register in advance. For more information, contact Theresa Lieteau.
Fairfax County Government offers free classes that teach positive and effective ways parents can interact with their children at every age and stage of development.
They help families to:
- Understand what to expect from children at different developmental stages and ages (0-18 years).
- Build strong, positive, respectful relationships between all family members.
- Take charge of their own feelings and behaviors and communicate in non-threatening ways.
The FCPS Family Academy was created to ensure the continued success and well-being of each and every student within the FCPS community. The Academy offers a variety of positive and engaging learning opportunities and meaningful connections to transform the FCPS experience into a welcoming environment for all families. Please visit the site to start connecting with your student’s education.
The School Assistance survey is still available for families in need or support. If you would like to receive this information, please designate the area or areas of assistance that you could use support in. This information will be kept confidential. The form can be found here.
Please contact our Family Liaison, Hana Kim (hkim22@fcps.edu), if you have any questions.
As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.
Please visit FCPS’ website for meeting dates, locations, and other information. Sign up for the School Boundary Review newsletter for updates
