Oak View Review

Lora Adams

Dear Oak View Community,

I'm excited and honored to step into the role of Interim Principal at Oak View. Having served as your Assistant Principal for the past eight years, I feel deeply connected to this community. As I mentioned earlier this year, my goal remains to empower our students and community by listening to your voices. Let’s work together to educate all students to become impactful and caring leaders!

With gratitude,

Mrs. Adams

Author Ann Marie Stephens Visits Oak View

Oak View Librarian, Mrs. Atkins, has again coordinated a year of amazing author visits for our students! We begin with Ann Marie Stephens who visited our Kindergarteners and First Graders on November 8.  Students were delighted to act out Ms. Stephens' book Arithmechicks Take Away with their teachers. They learned about what authors do and where stories come from, and that everyone can be an author!  We look forward to the next author visit in January.

National Wildlife Federation Ecoschools Silver Seal

Oak View awarded National Wildlife Foundation's Silver Ecoschools Seal

Twenty-seven schools across Fairfax County Public Schools are celebrating being honored by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) through the EcoSchools U.S. program.

Twenty-two schools earned a Green Flag and five earned a silver award, including Oak View. Only 56 Green Flags were awarded nationwide! This student-led program provides opportunities for youth leadership, raising environmental awareness, connecting students to the natural world, and driving positive environmental change.

Sixth Graders Visit Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center

This week, sixth graders went on an exciting field trip to the Udvar-Hazy Center to learn about life in space! One of the coolest activities was building pressure suits for “astronauts” to make sure they would be safe on a trip to space. Students used different materials to make the suits, then tested them with a vacuum pump to see if they would work under real space conditions.

They also explored the museum with a scavenger hunt, checking out awesome exhibits along the way. Everyone had a great time learning about space and seeing all the unique displays at the museum!

Oak View PTA Partners with Community Organization - Savers to Raise Funds for School

Oak View PTA sent home collection bags with students in support of a new partnership between OV PTA and a local community organization, Savers, that pays for bulk donations of items. These items are then readied for retail and sold in their local stores. The raised funds will support school-wide events at every grade. Our 6th graders will be helping to organize the items and ready for them for retail and will earn the greatest percent of funds from the donations. These funds will be used to support their end of year activities. We thank you in advance for your donations and collections can be made to the Donation Box at the front of Oak View during school days or on Sundays in November from 10-2 at the basketball court.

Donation Drive runs until November 28th.

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey - ALL Families

Oak View and FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.

For any families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE, schools will provide paper forms starting Wednesday, November 13. Paper forms should be returned by Wednesday, December 4.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.

Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
