#OneTeamOneDream❤️
Our 4th graders embarked on an unforgettable journey through history! They explored the rich heritage of Jamestown and Williamsburg, learning about early American settlers, Native American cultures, and the birth of a nation. From historic sites to hands-on activities, our students were immersed in the past.
The 4th grade class stepped back in time with a field trip to Jamestown and Williamsburg. They witnessed history firsthand, explored colonial homes, and even tried their hand at colonial crafts. This immersive experience brought history to life and sparked a love of learning.
We're so proud of our amazing Roadrunners who achieved perfect attendance in the first quarter! Tickets are earned and placed in their house's box at the end of each quarter. Students can earn a perfect attendance ticket each quarter by attending school every day they are feeling well. Let's keep up the great work, Roadrunners!
Our 1st grade mathematicians had a gourd time learning about estimation and counting! They estimated the number of seeds inside their pumpkins, then carefully scooped them out and grouped them by tens. It was a hands-on, pumpkin-filled adventure!
From apple to applesauce! Our Kindergarteners learned the steps of making homemade applesauce. After a delicious taste test, they even created a graph that certainly showed that the applesauce was a hit. Most students shared, "I don't like it... I love it!"
Our school was transformed into a magical world of stories as students and staff dressed up as their favorite book characters. From princesses to minions, Waldo to Shrek, we saw it all! It was a day filled with imagination, creativity, and a whole lot of fun!
A Message from the Admin Team
Dear Little Run Family,
We hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend! Happy Diwali to those celebrating.
Please remember that there is no school on Monday, November 4 and Tuesday, November 5. These days are designated for school planning and teacher workdays.
We look forward to welcoming all of our Roadrunners back to school on Wednesday, November 6.
Last week was filled with excitement and learning! We had the privilege of hosting the Woodson Robotics team, who shared their passion for STEM with our 6th-graders. Our 4th-graders embarked on a historical journey to Jamestown and Williamsburg, and our staff and students celebrated Storybook Character Day, transforming our school into a magical world of imagination.
As the first quarter comes to a close, our Roadrunners are eagerly awaiting the results of the House Competition. Who will be the ultimate winner? Will it be the Yellow, Green, or Blue House? Stay tuned for the exciting announcement next week!
We are also thrilled to recognize the 87 students who achieved perfect attendance in the first quarter. These students received special tickets to place in their House boxes. We encourage all of our students to strive for perfect attendance in the upcoming quarters.
Despite the upcoming shorter week, we are excited to continue our focus on learning and community. Thank you for your partnership as we enter the second quarter together!
Sincerely,
Christie Yarn, Principal
Lesley Hassen, Assistant Principal

Schools are Closed for Students November 4 and 5
Little Run's STEAM Lab
Cavbotics, Woodson’s robotics team, made a visit to Little Run, and they brought their robot from last year’s competition!! The First Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international competition where students work with mentors to build a robot that solves a challenge. Our sixth graders were able to see and learn about the robot the Cavbotics team created last year, as well as learn about STEM opportunities at the middle and high school levels.
Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.

Understanding the Full-Time AAP Screening Process
Join us on Thursday, November 7 at 5 p.m. in the library. This meeting is for families of students in grades 2-6 who are considering a full-time AAP referral.
Fall Celebrations of the Joy of Books and Reading
It was wonderful seeing the many storybook characters throughout the school on Thursday! One more way to show your favorite book character: the Storybook Tissue Box decoration competition! We are starting a new tradition this year; we are trading pumpkins for tissue boxes. The October 22 Tuesday folders included the directions for the competition. Decorate a tissue box to represent your favorite storybook and storybook character(s). Tissues must be functional and accessible so we can enjoy and use these all year long. This will support joy, creativity, and stuffy noses hopefully through the spring! We look forward to a lot of entries! Due: November 12.

Elementary School Language Arts Grading Updates
Our teachers have been hard at work teaching with the new Language Arts curriculum, and we are excited to help all of our students become strong readers and writers! This year we also have new assessments, which is how we check if your student needs extra help with reading and writing, and new Standards of Learning (SOLs).
Because of these changes, we are now teaching all of the Language Arts skills your child needs to know (and checking if they need extra help) throughout the whole school year, instead of different skills each quarter. While these skills will be new to your child in the beginning of the year, the goal is for your child to grow strong in all of their new skills by the end of the year.
This means that when you get your child’s progress report next month, it might look different. Your child’s teacher will give you more information on the new progress reporting and how we’re making sure your child is getting any extra help they might need. You can also find more information on FCPS’ Grading and Reporting webpage.
We will also have new ways for you to help your child practice their reading and writing skills at home. These resources are coming soon!
