Atoms Athletics Recap

Girls Volleyball traveled to TJ for their National District Quarterfinal matchup Monday evening. The Atoms came out hot in the first set holding a slim margin before TJ battled back to take the first set. Unfortunately, for the Atoms, TJ got hot in the second and third set to put the match away 3-0. Despite the loss, the Atoms qualified for the Region Tournament that starts Monday with the Atoms traveling to Woodson for a 6:30pm start.

Boys Volleyball started their National District Tournament off with a home game vs Falls Church. The Atoms and Jaguars split the first two sets before the Atoms locked it down to take sets three and four to move on the to semifinals at Hayfield. It was an exciting match back and forth between the Atoms and Hawks that saw the Hawks battle back from 4 down to win set 1. However, the Atoms took care of business in sets two and three to go up 2-1. The Hawks took set four to bring the match to a deciding set 5. What you missed was a hard fought battle that was point for point until the Atoms broke through in the final five points to win 15-11 and set themselves up with a date at TJ Monday night at 7:30pm for the National District Championship! With the win over Hayfield, the Atoms also guaranteed a home region playoff game Wednesday evening at Annandale!

Field Hockey continued their winning ways after securing the National District Championship last Friday. This time in the Occoquan Region Quarterfinals vs Robinson. The Rams got on the board first but not before the Atoms scored to make it 1-1 after one quarter. The Atoms added a second goal just before the half to make it 2-1! The second half was a defensive battle as the Atoms continuously kept the Rams out of the goal and securing the 2-1 win to move on the region semifinals! The Atoms will play Woodson @ Woodson (Central Site location) on Monday at 6:00pm!

Football welcomed the Lewis Lancers to Annandale Thursday evening. The Atoms started early by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown to make it 7-0 in the first 15 seconds of the game. The Atoms added a second TD to go up 14-0 before Lewis scored to close the gap to 14-7. That would be all the Lancers would muster as the Atoms added two more TD's before the half to go up 28-7 after two periods. The second half saw the Atoms tack on two more to pull away and ice the game with a final 42-7 score. The Atoms will host Rock Ridge Friday evening for their final home game of the season.

Boys and Girls Cross Country competed in the National District Championship Meet Wednesday at Burke Lake. The girls started the day off with a couple impressive runs but unfortunately fell short in their bid to qualify for the region meet. It was great season by the team that saw many runner achieve personal best runs throughout. The boys ran second and were paced by Connor Uzokoff and his 15th place finish to assist the boys team qualify for the region meet! The team will run again Wednesday at Burke Lake with the hopes of qualifying for the state meet!

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Odessa Murray.
