Leadership Ledger
Westlawn Families:
Thank you to all our families and staff who participated in our annual International Night last Friday. It’s always a party when the Westlawn Community comes together, and it was a wonderful way to start the weekend!
The next few days are a little quirky: today is an early release, and tomorrow (Friday, November 1) is a holiday. Monday and Tuesday of next week (November 4 - 5) are both student holidays; Monday is a professional workday for staff, and Tuesday is Election Day. We will look forward to seeing students back in the building next Wednesday, November 6.
The Westlawn Front Office will be closed tomorrow for the holiday. The office will be open on Monday from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, and closed again for Election Day.
The children look great today dressed up in their Storybook Character costumes, and we wish our families out trick-or-treating this evening a safe experience full of fun and candy (in moderation 😀).

Proud Principals
The season of magical fall field trips is upon us! Last week our kindergarten students had their first ever field trip to Cox Farms where they enjoyed learning about the animals and making memories together. Stay tuned to our social media channels, and TalkingPoints messages from your child’s teacher, to catch all of the field trip fun!

If you do not have a SIS ParentVUE account and would like to set one up, please call the main office at 703-241-5100.

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we will provide paper forms in November. Please be sure to return them by Friday, November 17.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers. Learn more about the Federal Impact Aid Survey.
Parking Reminder
If you are visiting Westlawn, please do not park in the designated handicapped parking spaces unless you are displaying a handicapped placard that allows you to be there. If parking spaces are full, please park on the street. There is street parking available on Oak Ridge, Westley, and the intersection of Kenfig and Nottage.
Afternoon Kiss and Ride Reminder
If you are picking up your child at kiss and ride in the afternoon, please be sure to be in line at 3:30 PM, the end of our academic day. With after-school clubs now happening, we are able to place children into cars more quickly than usual. Once we have run out of cars, all remaining children are asked to report to the office. Staff will not wait outside at kiss and ride when there are no more cars in line.
Absence Reporting Reminder
If your child will be absent, please do not report their absence via TalkingPoints because it is not monitored continuously. Instead, please call our main office at 703-241-5151 or send the absence team an email. Learn more about reporting an absence.

STEAM Academy
Is your student taking part in our grades 2-6 STEAM Academy this fall? We are so lucky to be able to offer these clubs for FREE thanks to our partnership with Northrop Grumman! The unique Westlawn STEAM Academy is the brainchild of our fantastic STEAM teacher, Meghan Winters. Westlawn staff sign up to teach these clubs in an area that interests them: like Lego Robotics, Green Team, Strategy Games, or Engineering Design. ALSO, we are lucky to have Virginia Tech come every session and run a club on drones the students get to program and fly! This fall is our biggest session yet with 180 students enjoying snacks and STEAM Academy clubs for 6 weeks! If your student didn’t have a chance this fall, we plan to hold more in the spring.
