Message from the Principal

Powell families,

Thank you for helping to ensure our second 3-hour early release Monday went as smoothly as possible! Because of our partnership, we were able to keep every Puma safe.

The biggest challenge during the past two early release Mondays were the last-minute changes made by families for students to remain for supervision or dismiss at 1PM. For the next early release day, December 9th, we will confirm your dismissal plans following the Thanksgiving Break. We ask that you carefully consider your needs for supervision and commit to your intentions once you submit them so that we can appropriately plan for all of our student’s needs. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding in helping us ensure a smooth and efficient early release process.

I also would like to share a shoutout to the kindergarten teachers, students, and parents for making our Annual Book Character Day & Parade (pictured below) a great success! Our kindergarteners proudly paraded around the school with huge smiles as they were cheered along by all of our students, staff, and kindergarten parents! Our administrative team and office staff enjoyed joining the festivities with our snowflake costumes representing the book Snowflake Bentley. Knowing that each snowflake is unlike any other, this was a wonderful way to show how each of us are Uniquely You

Warmly,

Jamie Luerssen
Principal

Federal Impact Aid Survey

The Federal Impact Aid Survey is now available to complete online.

The Federal Impact Aid program provides money to districts that enroll federally connected students. Help FCPS secure funding from the Impact Aid Program by helping us identify:

  • Military families.
  • Federally connected families.
  • Families living on a military base.

Your support will ensure that we receive the resources for which we are eligible. Please complete one form for each child in your household. Only the enrolling parent can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form.

  • Step 1: Log in to your SIS ParentVUE account. If you don’t have a SIS ParentVUE account, contact me ( Mrs. Regina Johnson) for an activation letter to set up account.
  • Step 2: After you’ve logged into your ParentVue Account, look for the ‘Online Packets’ link at the top of the page. Click ‘Online Packets.’
  • Step 3: Next, click the ‘Federal Impact Aid Survey’ button on the bottom of the page. This will take you to the Impact Aid Survey for you to complete.

If you have multiple children in Fairfax County Public Schools, please fill out a form for each child. You will know you have completed all of the forms when you get to the final page, and see a green check next to each of their names.

Please note your information is kept strictly confidential. Your support will ensure that we receive the resources for which we are eligible.

Guardians of Green Partner with Eagle Scout!

Former Powell Puma, Ruthika Sabbi, returned to Colin Powell Elementary with her Eagle Scout troop and a passion for helping.   Ruthika wanted to give back to our school community and help give students a space for outdoor learning experiences.   Our school now has four beautiful new raised garden beds and a small dig bed.   With this completed project our school has a great space that all students can access and enjoy.   We appreciate the partnership and are so grateful to Ruthika for wanting to help support the Powell Puma community.   We also want to take the time to thank Merrifield Garden Center and The Home Depot for helping make the project possible.  As the winter season nears our Guardians of Green group will spearhead the next steps in the use of our new beds.
