In our SEES school community, we S.O.A.R., meaning that we demonstrate: Support, Optimism, Acceptance, and Responsibility.
Dear Springfield Estates Families,
What a wonderful week we’ve had here at Springfield Estates! Last Saturday, we kicked off the weekend with a fantastic turnout at our “Fall into Good Books: Book Fair and Literacy Event”. Families came together to celebrate the joy of reading, and it was heartwarming to see so many students excited about book character costumes, new books and literacy activities. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it such a memorable day! The funds raised by our book fair go directly to supporting our library.
This week, our Multi-Lingual Leaders group—a team of 5th and 6th graders who are progressing in their English language journey—began mentoring younger Eagles who are also learning to navigate school in more than one language. It’s inspiring to see these students connect and support each other in the learning process.

A special shoutout to our ESOL team, Ms. Bates, Ms. Berman, and Ms. Getner, for organizing this valuable program. Their hard work reflects the heart of our community, showing us how we Eagles SOAR: Supportive, Optimistic, Accepting, and Responsible. Seeing our students embrace bilingualism as an asset highlights the strength and diversity within our school.
Before we sign off, a quick reminder: there will be no school tomorrow, Friday, November 1st to observe Diwali. Monday and Tuesday are also days off for students, as our staff will be engaged in teacher training and parent/guardian conferences. We look forward to connecting with many of you during these conferences to celebrate your child’s growth and plan for continued success!
Thank you for your support, and enjoy the long weekend with your families!

Elementary School Language Arts Grading Updates
Our teachers have been hard at work teaching with the new Language Arts curriculum, and we are excited to help all of our students become strong readers and writers! This year we also have new assessments, which is how we check if your student needs extra help with reading and writing, and new Standards of Learning (SOLs).
Because of these changes, we are now teaching all of the Language Arts skills your child needs to know (and checking if they need extra help) throughout the whole school year, instead of different skills each quarter. While these skills will be new to your child in the beginning of the year, the goal is for your child to grow strong in all of their new skills by the end of the year.
This means that when you get your child’s progress report next month, it might look different. Your child’s teacher will give you more information on the new progress reporting and how we’re making sure your child is getting any extra help they might need. You can also find more information on FCPS’ Grading and Reporting webpage.
We will also have new ways for you to help your child practice their reading and writing skills at home. These resources are coming soon!
