Welcome to Our Braddock ES Family, #OneFamily
Attention Braddock Families & Community!
In honor of Hispanic Month, I want to highlight German Avalos, School Health Room Aide. Mr. Avalos plays a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services to students and staff at Braddock Elementary School. He works under the supervision of Sara King, Public Health Nurse (PHN). His job entails a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall health and well-being of the school community
Key Roles and Responsibilities of School Health Room Aide:
-
First Aid and Emergency Response: Aides assist with administering first aid treatment for minor injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, and burns. They also help to manage medical emergencies, ensuring that appropriate protocols are followed and that students receive timely care.
-
Medication Administration: Under the direction of the school nurse, aides may assist with the safe and accurate administration of prescribed medications to students. This involves following strict procedures to prevent medication errors and ensure student safety.
|
-
Health Promotion and Education: Aides contribute to health education programs by promoting healthy habits, such as proper hygiene, nutrition, and exercise. They may also participate in activities that raise awareness about specific health issues, such as dental health or substance abuse prevention.
-
Administrative Support: Aides often provide administrative support to the school nurse, assisting with tasks such as maintaining health records, scheduling appointments, and ordering medical supplies.
-
Student and Staff Support: Aides offer emotional support to students and staff who may be feeling unwell or experiencing stress. They create a welcoming and supportive environment in the health room.
During our 3-Hour Early Release Day, Mr. Avalos participated in the American Heart Association Children’s Challenge presentation as a Guest Speaker. Mr. Avalos spoke to students about healthy heart habits, as well as shared about his job as a School Health Aide.
If you come to Braddock, please stop by our Health Room and introduce yourself.

Vision and hearing screening will be held on Tuesday, October 29th and Wednesday, October 30th for all 3rd grade students. The purpose of screening is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears glasses, please be sure that glasses are at school on screening day. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning.
