🫶 National Family Engagement Month

Family Engagement Month is a time to remember that families are children’s first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers.

The FCPS Family Academy was created to support the continued success and well-being of each and every student within the FCPS community. The Academy offers a variety of positive and engaging learning opportunities and meaningful connections to transform the FCPS experience into a welcoming environment for all families.

Deadline for Submitting Referrals: December 15

The deadline for all students in grades 2-6 to apply for full-time advanced academic services to begin at the start of the 25-26 school year is Sunday, December 15. This is a county provided date, there are no exceptions or extensions. Please plan ahead!

âś… Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

đź“š Literacy Resources for Families Webpage & Grading Updates

A new Literacy Resources for Families webpage is available to provide families with information about how to support their children with developing literacy knowledge and skills at home. It provides valuable information about the reading and writing resources to be used at home, the VALLSS, Reading Plans and training available through the Family Academy.

Elementary Progress Report grades in English Language Arts may be impacted this year by our new curriculum, our new assessments, and the new 2024 ELA VDOE Standards of Learning. We now teach and assess all ELA standards in all quarters using rigorous on-grade level texts in relation to end of year expectations, which could result in lower grades earlier in the year as students work towards grade-level mastery. An update has been posted on the FCPS website.
