Message from Mr. Greata
I am thrilled to share the highlights of our recent rededication ceremony. The event was graced by numerous inspiring speakers who eloquently recounted the history of our school, the motivations behind its transformation, and our aspirations for the future. We take immense pride in our students’ contributions and are deeply grateful to the students and staff who dedicated countless hours to orchestrate this memorable occasion.
If you were unable to attend, we invite you to watch the recording of the full ceremony. Additionally, we’ve provided links to various news stories covering the event and a copy of the program below. The program acknowledges the many individuals who played a role in bringing this ceremony to fruition.
In other exciting news, the Virginia Department of Education has awarded Carter G. Woodson High School the Highest Achievement Award, as part of their exemplar program. We are one of only two Fairfax County Public Schools to receive this honor for our students’ academic accomplishments during the 2023–2024 school year. A heartfelt thank you to all our teachers and staff for their unwavering dedication, and to our families for their steadfast support of our students’ hard work.
Our field hockey teams have also achieved remarkable success. Congratulations to Hailey Frieden, Janice Blair, Ava Weber, and Vitoria (Tori) Lennon on earning a spot on the All-District teams! And congratulations to the entire field hockey team on their semifinal victory against Robinson last night. We look forward to cheering you on in the finals on Monday!
This Saturday, join us for our Fall Fest starting at 11 AM. The event will feature trunk-or-treating, bounce houses, and other fun activities for kids. My family and I will be there with our rendition of the Haunted Mansion—enter if you dare!
We are looking forward to our career day next on October 31st! That day will also be a 2-hour early release, followed by a holiday on Friday, November 1st. There will be no school on November 4th or 5th as well, and students will return to school for the second quarter on November 6th.
We hope to see you all tonight at South County as our Cavaliers take on the Stallions.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Kevin Greata Principal

Thank you to everyone that attended and to the students and staff that helped plan this wonderful event!
Woodson Strings Quartet played music at the reception before the ceremony.
Dozens of students helped guide our guests through out the event.
Woodson Vocal Ensemble performed the National Anthem and a special selected piece titled "The Lesson".
Attendance Reminder
With next week, and the week after, being short weeks for students, please be mindful of notifying our attendance office of any impending student absences.
All Day absences can always be submitted through your ParentVUE account.
Parents and caregivers must report late arrivals and early dismissals directly to the school, as partial-day absences cannot be recorded in ParentVUE.
If your student needs to be released early from school, please call the attendance line at 703-503-4800 and leave a voicemail. You can also have your student bring in a note directly to the attendance office. Be mindful of our 30 minute notice request. Last minute early releases are hard to accommodate, especially if we are in between class changes, holding schoolwide presentations, the student is in PE, etc.
Impact Aid Forms
Impact Aid Forms are now available in SIS ParentVUE!
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
Need to Register for ParentVUE?
Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.
Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
