Our Cub-Run-read-a-thon was a success!  Three rotating centers had our Cubbies in the gym, library and outdoors.  The gym was full of running, jumping, and rolling through obstacle courses.  The library was quiet while eyes and imaginations were busy absorbing stories.  And outdoors, as you can see, was full of smiles and conversation as students were treated to snow cones!

Cubbie News

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

We have had an outstanding week at Cub Run! We want to thank all of our volunteers and families who supported our Cub Run & Read-a-thon! Our Cubbies had a blast raising funds for our school as they worked their way through the obstacle course or continued reading in our library. Of course, they also loved to celebrate with our snow cones! We are grateful for everyone who was able to help and are thankful for the support of our families and PTA.

It has been exciting to see our Cubbies participating in our spirit week as we continue to focus on our C.A.R.E.S. expectations and digital citizenship. Each day this week, we have been reinforcing our expectations and continue to explicitly instruct our students on what this looks like in each of our learning environments and online.

Our next early release is on Monday, October 28. All students who attend afternoon SACC will be dismissed at 12:25 to SACC. If there is a change in your child's after-school plans for the early release, please complete this updated form no later than Thursday, October 24. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure we know how our dismissal plans for each of our Cubbies.

Warm regards,

Melissa Miller & Nausheen Haider

Elementary Early Release Monday - October 28

We are planning for our next three hour early release on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Our plan is to dismiss students in the same way that they were dismissed in September unless you noted a different dismissal plan on the Google form or we hear that you would like to make a change.

SACC students will transition to SACC at the early release because it will open at the early dismissal time. If you need to make a change or confirm your dismissal plan for October 28, please use this updated form.

In order to ensure student safety, please do not make any last minute changes to your child's dismissal plan. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Positivity Project

This week, our school is focusing on the Other People Mindset of Being present and giving others my attention. This means when we are with other people, we are present and give them our full attention.

In today's world, it's easy to get distracted by phone calls, messages, and social media. These distractions can pull us away from what's most important — our relationships with other people.

Just as plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need attention. If we don’t give our full attention when we are with our family, friends, and even colleagues, we can't build strong relationships. It’s crucial to put down our phones and tablets and really listen when others are talking. Positive relationships are the foundation of a positive culture, and we can’t build positive relationships without attention.

To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset of being present and giving others our attention, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families. There, you will watch a video clip together and discuss a quote and three questions.

Thank you for your support!

Cub Run C.A.R.E.S.

We encourage you to ask your student about what C.A.R.E.S. means and what it looks like in our hallways, bathrooms, at recess, and in our cafeteria. We appreciate your partnership and support in fostering a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all of our Cubbies.

To Honor Our Veterans - November 8

Veteran's Day

We are excited to be planning our Veterans Day assemblies for our students! We would like to put together a slideshow highlighting Veterans in our Cub Run community. If you or a member of your family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) have served in any branch of the Armed Forces, please send a photo to be included in the slide show so that we can recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that they have made for our country. All pictures can be emailed to Tracy Cousino at tacousino@fcps.edu.

We are also planning a few other events leading up to Veterans Day and would like to invite any Veterans who would like to read a story to a class/grade level during the week of November 6-8. If you are interested or know someone who would be interested, please email Tracy Cousino (tacousino@fcps.edu) with your availability on November 6th-8th. Please also include the grade level/class of your Cub Run student (if you have one) so that we can best match up readers with classes.

On Friday, November 8, we would like to invite all Veterans and community members to join us for our Veterans Day assembly featuring a musical performance by our Cub Run chorus and 2nd grade students. The performances will be from 9:00 - 9:45 for students in gr. K-2 and 2:15 - 3:00 for students in preK-3.

We would like to acknowledge all of the Veterans in our Cub Run community as we are grateful for their bravery and service to our country.
