Message from Principal Burke

Good afternoon, Edison Eagles!

What a fantastic week it's been, highlighted by an unforgettable homecoming weekend! I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who made our homecoming football game such a special event. It was amazing to see so many fans filling the stands to cheer on our team. A special thank you to our JROTC cadets for presenting the colors and for their impressive passing review. It is always an honor to stand there as they pass by, and I am proud of their dedication.

Our choir, joined by our middle school students, delivered a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, setting the perfect tone for the evening. Thank you to our marching band for putting on a great halftime show, and to our cheerleaders for keeping the energy high throughout the game. And, of course, a big shout-out to our football team for an excellent game. Congratulations to our homecoming royalty!

The fun didn’t stop there. Our homecoming dance on Saturday was a hit, with a game night theme that everyone seemed to enjoy. Thank you to our leadership teachers and students for all their hard work in organizing such a memorable event.

Earlier in the week, we celebrated our senior volleyball players and managers as they took the court for their senior night. It was a thrilling match, and our seniors pulled off a fantastic win—congratulations!

On Wednesday, our 10th grade STEM students showcased their water purification projects. Visitors were highly impressed by the creativity and depth of understanding shown in their presentations. Well done to all our students and staff involved in this project!

As a reminder, this upcoming week marks the end of the first quarter. Thursday, 10/31 will be the last day of the quarter and an early release, with no school on Friday. Students will also have a long weekend, with no school on Monday, November 4, and Tuesday, November 5.

Thank you for all your continued support, and I hope you all have a restful and productive weekend.

Go Eagles!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Amanda Burke
Principal

Christopher Lastrape at the State Of Our Schools Address.

"I am happy to say that my experience at the Inaugural State of Our Schools Address was nothing short of amazing! Not only was I able to connect with FCPS leaders, but I was selected to sit at a table with many school board members (including Chair of the School Board, Karl Frisch) and Dr. Reid herself. I established a great relationship with Rachna Sizemore, School Board Member for the Braddock District, who imparted that supporting my success as a student leader is exactly what FCPS is striving toward. Dr. Reid's presentation was incredibly insightful and sparked several ideas for how I can utilize my platform as a leader to improve students' educational experiences and foster the FCPS standards of excellence, equity, and opportunity."

Cell Phone Storage Pilot Program Focus Groups Coming Soon

Students, staff, and families participating in the cell phone storage pilot program will be invited to participate in focus groups (hosted by FCPS’ Office of the Chief Equity Officer and K12 Insight) to share their experiences and insights. Feedback from the focus groups and other community engagement opportunities will help FCPS make adjustments to the pilot program in order to support student success and strengthen the program’s outcomes.

Invites for the pilot high schools will launch on November 4 for staff and families, and on November 5 for students. These focus group invitations are only for schools participating in the pilot program.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets (in the upper right corner after logging in). Please complete it as soon as possible.

For any families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE, we will provide paper forms starting Wednesday, November 13. Paper forms should be returned by Wednesday, December 4.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. Information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, please watch this video on Impact Aid and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
