This week we want to take a moment to thank the White Oaks PTA. The PTA recognizes the dedication and hard work of our teachers and staff regularly and we appreciate it. In addition, our PTA sponsors events all year that build our White Oaks community and support family connections. This month alone, we have had a fun evening event. The Movie Night was a great success. This weekend we have the Eagle Trot. Thank you to our PTA for all that you do to make White Oaks a great place for our staff and students to work and learn.
The Virginia Council on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children voted on October 21, 2024, to approve White Oaks Elementary School as a recipient of the SY 2024-2025 Purple Star Award. This designation is a testament to our commitment to making our school a welcoming and supportive place, especially for our military connected students. Thank you to Ms. Kristen Pastino, first grade teacher at White Oaks for leading the application process.
We will be collecting warmer clothing donations in all sizes during the week of October 28th. On November 1st, Mr. Peek will be bringing donations to Asheville, N.C. to support families in need. Items can be gently used or new.
Veterans Day is coming, and WOES will be honoring our veterans with our annual breakfast. This year the breakfast will be on Friday, Nov. 8th at 7:45 a.m. at White Oaks E.S. in the cafeteria. In addition, we would love to have a picture of your veteran to include in a slideshow. Photos can be emailed to RLOrr@fcps.edu.

Our former assistant principal, Tanya Siwik is out on leave from her position at Terra-Centre due to a medical condition. Please keep her in your thoughts and if families want updates about Tanya’s medical concerns, they may join her Facebook Group. It’s called “Tanya’s Journey.” If you or your student would like to send a card, you may drop off cards in the main office and our counselor, Ms. Mejia will bring them to Ms. Siwik.
Attention all members of the White Oaks Community! Do you know a White Oaks staff member that displays exceptional leadership and exceeds his/her responsibilities? Does your child have a teacher who highly motivates students, understands individual needs, and instills a love for learning? Can you identify an outstanding staff member that fosters cooperative relationships in the community? Then, please take the time to nominate a White Oaks staff member by November 8th.

Help your White Oaks PTA while doing nothing -- just sit in your favorite armchair! We hope you have seen the value that your PTA brings to our community. Last week we sent a breakdown of how your money has been spent so far this year and now we are asking for your help to continue that momentum. Our goal is to raise $10,000 and we cannot do it without your support! This is our main fundraiser to collect money for community needs like helping our teachers get upgraded technology for their classrooms, providing meals on teacher workdays and hosting fun events like movie nights.
