A Message From The Principal
Students were thrilled to meet Sparky the Fire Dog during our Fire Prevention Week! Sparky, along with Lt. Martinez, engaged our youngest learners in a meaningful discussion on fire safety, emphasizing what to do in the event of a fire and how to create a family emergency plan. This hands-on opportunity not only educated our students but also left them with a sense of confidence in firefighters and the important role they play in keeping us safe.
In addition to Sparky’s visit, students were excited to tour the fire truck, learning about its many features and asking questions about how it operates. This experience sparked a sense of curiosity and admiration for the work firefighters do every day. We are extremely grateful to the Fort Belvoir Fire Department for dedicating their time to support our students’ safety education.
Together we are and will continue to be Fort Belvoir strong!
Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

Book Character Day: October 25th
On Friday, October 25th, Fort Belvoir Primary will have our 2nd Annual Book Character Day! Students are invited to find a great book and dress up like their favorite character. Book Character Day is a fun, voluntary activity for both students and staff that promotes a love of reading, specifically favorite book characters. We are looking forward to seeing which characters inspire our students!
Dressing up is optional. If students choose to do so, please adhere to the following so that our students have a safe and productive day.
- Costumes should not be scary nor have words, graphics, or toy weapons that are inappropriate for school
- No costume face masks
- No painted faces
Whether your child is wearing a costume or not, please remind them to bring their favorite book.
Pink Out Day as a School Community!
Fort Belvoir is known not only as a "purple" military base, where families from all branches of service come together, but also as a compassionate assignment base, offering support for families facing unique challenges. At Fort Belvoir Elementary, we witness this compassion daily, rallying around students and families navigating difficult situations. Last year, our community supported two brave students fighting cancer, and we’re thrilled to share that both are now cancer-free and have joyfully rung the cancer-free bell, a celebration of their strength and resilience. Their journeys remind us all of the power of community in times of hardship.
This year, we continue to stand alongside those still battling illnesses, as our mission to support and uplift one another remains unwavering. To show our solidarity, we’re inviting everyone to wear pink on Wednesday, October 30th, as a symbol of our collective hope and determination to overcome cancer. In our close-knit military community, when one person is impacted, we all feel it deeply.
Together, we believe that by supporting one another, we can face and conquer any challenge. Families can find additional talking points linked HERE.
STEAMOLOGY at Mount Vernon High School

Animal Shelter Donation Drive
Our Multi-age classroom, together with their buddy classroom, is excited to collect items for a local the Lorton Animal Shelter in Lorton, Virginia. It is located a short distance outside of Fort Belvoir Military Base. This special project holds a meaningful place in our students' hearts, as the shelter has been an invaluable partner in supporting their growth and fostering a love for learning. We kindly ask everyone to join us in this effort by donating the items listed below. Your contributions will make a positive impact, both for the shelter and for our students, as they learn the value of compassion and community support.
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
October brings many wonderful things to Fort Belvoir Primary! The school community is especially grateful for the dedication of its leadership team: Dr. Jemison, the Principal, along with Assistant Principals Ms. Flint and Ms. Gordon. This dynamic team continually goes above and beyond to support both students and staff, creating a positive and nurturing environment that embodies the school’s commitment to excellence.
Their hard work and dedication make Fort Belvoir Primary an exceptional place for learning and growth! We invite families to view a special presentation of our Principal and Assistant Principals linked HERE.
Teaching Acts of Kindness at Fort Belvoir Primary
As we embark on the season of thanksgiving, it is essential to teach our children the importance of supporting fellow Americans impacted by recent hurricanes. We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to assist military families and other communities in need.
Many affected families include service members stationed in Florida and North Carolina, and we are kindly asking each family to consider donating $1 or more using the QR code below. Please remember, individuals do not have to be local to contribute to this cause. Thank you in advance for supporting this important effort.

❤️A Special Thank You
Ms. Cash holds a special place in our school community. Last year, she crafted a beautiful quilt that now hangs outside our clinic, inviting admiration from students and visitors alike. This past summer, while in Cape Cod, Ms. Belanger and her son surprised Ms. Cash with a heartfelt visit to thank her personally and to share the quilt’s impact at our school. Students frequently gather around it, sharing stories about the different states they've lived in before coming to Fort Belvoir. It’s become a beloved piece, sparking conversations and creating connections among our students.
Thank You - Villages at Fort Belvoir Housing

Their dedicated team has transformed several of our external spaces, making them more welcoming and vibrant for our students, staff, and visitors alike.
