📸Fall Picture Day
Wednesday, October 23 

Fall picture day is this coming Wednesday, October 23. Order forms from Strawbridge were sent home in your child's Thursday folder. Please check your child's backpack. Purchasing a picture package is optional. These photographs will serve as our students' official yearbook pictures. Want to order pictures and pay online? Go to www.strawbridge.net. Click order pictures and enter the following code: FM446099. Or complete the order form that was sent home and have your child bring it into school by Friday, October 23.

Get excited for Spooky BINGO! Join us on Friday, October 25th from 6-8pm in the cafeteria for an evening packed with Halloween-themed fun and games! Kids can wear their favorite costumes and enjoy a thrilling night of BINGO, prizes, and spooky surprises. We’ll have snacks and drinks for sale, so bring your appetite and your competitive spirit! Admission is $5 per person, with a max of $20 per family. You won’t want to miss this ghoulishly good time!

⏰ 3 Hour Early Release Monday at Herndon ES  October 28 at 1:05pm

If your child is taking the bus home at 1:05pm, please be at the bus stop 3 hours earlier than the normal time.  

SACC students who will be staying after school will go to SACC at 1:05pm.

For parents who have a childcare hardship and pre-arranged afterschool care, students will be dismissed at 4:05pm.

Students who stay at school between early release and regular dismissal will not be with their regular teacher and will not receive instruction during this time. They will be supervised by other school staff, substitute teachers, or central office staff.

Herndon ES 2nd grade teacher, Caitlin Monroy, received an FCPS CARES for October 2024. See the FCPS CARES submission below:

Mrs. Caitlin Monroy, a 2nd grade teacher at Herndon Elementary School, consistently goes above and beyond in her role as an educator. Not only does she provide exceptional learning and emotional support to her students, but she also ensures that her classroom is a nurturing environment where every child feels cared for and valued. Beyond her daily teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Monroy takes the time to communicate with parents in both Spanish and English, bridging language barriers to ensure that all families are informed and involved in their children’s education. Additionally, she often purchases snacks and supplies for students who may not have the means to bring their own, showing a deep level of care and commitment to the well-being of each child in her class. Her dedication to her students and their families demonstrates her unwavering passion for making a positive impact on her community.

SAVE THE DATE! Come out to support our community for the Herndon Homecoming Parade on Saturday, November 9 in downtown Herndon. The parade theme is Out of This World, with Herndon ES as Beyond the Stars, and we'd LOVE to have families out to march alongside staff in the parade! Please also consider donating the following items to help them construct an amazing rocketship:

  • Clean, empty 2-liter plastic bottles
  • tin foil
  • tissue paper/felt - fire/flame colored

Items may be dropped off in the main office.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Cornerstones Advocacy Committee, chaired by Brian Funaki, for organizing this event, and to our Forum Moderator and Cornerstones Board Chair, Andy Lacher, for his expert facilitation of the evening’s discussions. We also extend a sincere thank you to our esteemed panelists—Mike Williams, Rev. Charles Cowherd, Principal Candace Hunstad, and Fanny Salazar-Laske—for their invaluable contributions and thought-provoking questions.

A special shoutout to Trinity Presbyterian Church for graciously hosting this community event, Herndon Community Television for recording the event, and to Crumbl Cookies Reston for their delicious donation to the reception. Your support truly made the evening even more memorable!

  • Mayoral candidates Pradip Dhakal and Keven LeBlanc delved into issues affecting the heart of Herndon’s community.
  • Candidates discussed the town’s five-year strategic plan, affordable housing initiatives, sustainable social and economic development, ethical governance, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.
  • Both candidates emphasized the need to strengthen community engagement and forge strategic partnerships with Fairfax County and state legislators to secure vital resources that support Herndon’s continued growth and success.
  • Over 100 community members and local leaders attended.

💉Free Immunizations for All FCPS Students


Safeway Pharmacy will be providing immunizations for all FCPS students at
no cost! Parents or guardians may schedule an appointment and provide
consent for their student(s). The immunization clinics are being held
at Frost Middle School on:

  • Monday, October 28, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Students under the age of 19, with a scheduled appointment and parental
consent, must be accompanied by their parent, guardian, or another adult
over the age of 19.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are highly encouraged to avoid
wait times. A parent or guardian must accompany walk-in students under
the age of 19 in order to provide consent.

Transportation services are also available. Please visit our Immunization
Resources webpage for details.

🚸Kindergarten and New Student Registration for the 2024-25 School Year

A child may enter kindergarten for this coming school year if he or she turns five on or before September 30, 2024.   

If you have not registered your child, we are scheduling appointments for all rising kindergartners.  We have Spanish translators in the office and can arrange for other languages as well.  Please contact Shermin Sirajudin, our Student Information Assistant, by email at ssirajudin@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-326-3100.
