A Message from The Principal

Hello Ravensworth Families,

We are less than two weeks away from the end of the first quarter.  Our students have been busy learning about nature as part of our Benchmark Advance literacy curriculum.  We encourage you to ask what they have been reading and writing about.  Each student has their own booklet that they have been reading and writing in.  They will be bringing this home soon.  One of the features of the booklet is a home activity page.  We hope you will review this with your child and try some of the suggestions offered.

As a reminder, Monday, October 21st is a 3-Hour Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed at 12:20 pm or stay for supervision.  A confirmation email was sent to families on Wednesday, October 16th.  All changes should be submitted prior to Monday, October 21st.  SACC will be open at 12:20 pm for students who are enrolled in that program.

On Wednesday, October 23rd we will hold our second Family Academy of the year.  Our topic will be Bullying Prevention.  Come join us in the library at 7:00 pm.

Next week we will begin our reading and math interventions in grades 1-6.  Students who will be receiving these interventions will be given parent notification letters (paper copies) in their wednesday folders on October 23rd.  Students were identified for additional support based on data from their fall assessments as well as their current classroom performance.

I hope you enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.

Sincerely,

Erika Aspuria

Principal

Disability History and Awareness Month

disability month2

In Virginia during October, Disability History and Awareness activities provide an opportunity to create greater public awareness for individuals with disabilities, with the goal of full inclusion in our community.

National Bullying Prevention Month

stop bulying

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.

Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”

For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact your child's sub school so that they can support you and most importantly your student.

A Reminder

no dogs

Parents/guardians, please be aware that No Dog on School Property signs are posted. Please do not bring your dogs on school property. We appreciate your help with this.

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

Fill out forms

The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE-71) and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHNs) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health-Related Needs.

These forms are required for all students. Enrolling parents/guardians who have a SIS ParentVUE account may submit them electronically by using the Online Verification/Update packet

For families without SIS ParentVue accounts, forms can be located in the Back to School packets and on the General Registration Forms page.

Social Studies Basal Resources Review

social studies resources

FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.

All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.
