Staff dressed up as celebrities during spirit week

Not only did our students show up for spirit week this week, but our staff did too. Look at these celebrities walking around Student Services on Thursday!

Message from Mr. Greata

School spirit is alive and well this week at Carter G. Woodson High School! Our students and staff showed amazing creativity and artistic flair during our HOCO Spirit Week, with some amazing dynamic duos and interesting substitutes for backpacks. Monday saw some hard fought Power Puff games with inventive penalty hand signals, followed by a blazing bonfire. Congratulations to the sophomores for their victory over the freshmen, and to the seniors for their win against the juniors—both were close and highly competitive games!

On Tuesday, our golf team represented us in the state competition. Congratulations to Han Lee who placed seventh in the state—an amazing achievement!

Yesterday’s pep rally got everyone pumped for the homecoming game and dance. Our leadership students did an outstanding job organizing and creating such a lively event. It was fantastic to see our student body out in full force, filled with energy and excitement. At the pep rally, we also revealed the identity of our mystery DJ— David O’Hara. Apparently, our students turned the tables on Mr. O’Hara and disc-overed his very vinyl secret!

Don’t forget, the parade kicks off today at 4:30 PM, followed by the pregame pig out from 5-7 and then our homecoming game against Robinson. Congratulations to our homecoming court: And, of course, Saturday night will be capped off with our Homecoming Dance from 8 to 11 PM.

On a more practical note, it's that time of year again—Impact Aid forms are coming up. NEW this year, forms will be sent out through ParentVUE. Parents will receive a message on October 21, 2024. Families without ParentVUE will be given paper forms on November 12, 2024. The Impact Aid form helps schools secure funding based on the number of military families, federally connected families, and families living on a military base.

Lastly, we are just days away from the rededication ceremony for Carter G. Woodson High School! If you plan on attending, please fill out this RSVP form—it’ll help us get a rough estimate of attendees.

See you all at the parade and the game tonight, and have a wonderful weekend!

Our Student Ambassadors are excited to see you and their princi-PAL, Mr. Greata!

Counselor Corner

Counselors visited freshmen this week through their World History 1 classes to discuss ways to meet with their counselor, how counselors help and support students, and reviewed proper email etiquette. On Wednesday, twenty six 11th and 12th grade students traveled to Alcanza college fair at George Mason University. George Mason hosts Alcanza as part of their effort to increase college interest and awareness among high school students during Hispanic Heritage month and we were excited to have such a great turn out! Lastly, please note that the 1st quarter ends on Thursday, October 31st. Please encourage your children to visit the Supports/Wellness padlet and Woodson Wellness padlet for study strategies and ways to relieve stress.
