A little fun for everyone! Did someone say "pie"?

One student from each grade level was pulled from our C.A.R.E.S. ticket bin for the "Pie the Principal" incentive. Students received 2024 tickets overall, surpassing the goal of 2000. The event was recorded and shared during a Cubbie Nation News edition for all students to enjoy.

Cubbie News

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

We wanted to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to our amazing students, families, and staff for continuing to partner together to support our school community.

Our Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day was a great success, and we were thrilled to see many of our students and their families participating. It's a wonderful way to promote healthy living and environmental awareness. Additionally, our Principal's Walking Club kicked off last week, providing students with an opportunity to start the morning with movement and connecting with our staff and other students. We hope to see even more Cubbies next month!

Our Cubbies have continued to earn our C.A.R.E.S. tickets and achieved the goal of pieing us in the face. Students from each grade level were able to pie us in the face! Way to go, Cubbies! The current goal our students are working towards is 2,250 tickets for a school-wide stuffed animal day. Next week is our C.A.R.E.S & Digital Citizenship Spirit Week, please see below for more information.

As we look ahead to Friday, we are excited for our Cub Run and Read-a-thon. Thank you to all our families and community members who have registered and donated. Your support is invaluable. We are grateful to our PTA for their continued dedication to our school community. We know it is going to be an awesome day!

Thank you again for your ongoing support. We look forward to another fantastic week ahead!

Warm regards,

Melissa Miller & Nausheen Haider

Safety Reminder

As we continue to focus on the safety of our students, staff and families, we want to remind families who are picking up their children at door 4 as walkers, to park off of school grounds and not in our parking lot where our kiss and ride/car riders are moving through.

We have had several unsafe situations where students have been crossing the parking lot and cars are frequently moving through the parking lot.

Elementary Early Release Monday - October 28

We are planning for our next three hour early release on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Our plan is to dismiss students in the same way that they were dismissed in September unless you noted a different dismissal plan on the Google form or we hear that you would like to make a change. SACC students will transition to SACC at the early release because it will open at the early dismissal time. If you need to make a change or confirm your dismissal plan for October 28, please use this updated form.

In order to ensure student safety, we kindly request that our front office staff be notified by 10 a.m. of any last minute dismissal changes. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Storybook Character Day is Coming!

On October 31st students are encouraged to dress like a favorite storybook character.

Don't have a favorite storybook character? Wear your Halloween costume (no masks permitted) OR your Cub Run spiritwear and colors!

*Please remember all costumes should be school appropriate.

To Honor Our Veterans - November 8

Veteran's Day

We are excited to be planning our Veterans Day assemblies for our students! We would like to put together a slide show highlighting Veterans in our Cub Run community. If you or a member of your family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) have served in any branch of the Armed Forces, please send a photo to be included in the slide show so that we can recognize and appreciate the sacrifices that they have made for our country. All pictures can be emailed to Tracy Cousino at tacousino@fcps.edu.

We are also planning a few other events leading up to Veterans Day and would like to invite any Veterans who would like to read a story to a class/grade level during the week of November 6-8.

If you are interested or know someone who would be interested, please email Tracy Cousino (tacousino@fcps.edu) with your availability on the November 6th-8th. Please also include the grade level/class of your Cub Run student (if you have one) so that we can best match up readers with classes.

Positivity Project

This week, our school is focusing on the character strength of Open-Mindedness. This means being willing to consider new ideas and try new things. It involves looking at situations from all sides and not jumping to conclusions.

Open-mindedness is about seeking out and fairly weighing evidence, even if it goes against our own opinions or goals. Open-minded people listen to different viewpoints, including those that are less popular. They are often good listeners and provide balanced advice, which makes them great friends and confidants. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.

To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness at home, please visit the Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families. There, you will watch a video clip together and discuss a quote and three questions related to open-mindedness.

Thank you for your support!

National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.

Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”

For more information on how FCPS handles a bullying situation please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. Our goal is to ensure all students feel safe and welcome at school. If you have questions and/or concerns about something that is going on at school, please contact an administrator or school counselor.
