Haycock Hello 10.21.24

jump

Dear Haycock Families,

Our students and staff are finishing the first quarter of the 2024-25 school year strong! Parent-teacher conferences going on now and over the next few weeks provide the opportunity for you to learn about how your child is doing and about things you can do to support them at home.

Many of you joined us for our October Connections and Conversations Parent Coffee on Friday morning.  Kristen Haynor, the FCPS Neurodiversity specialist, provided lots of valuable information and ideas for supporting students at home. If you have ideas for topics for us to include in upcoming Connections and Conversation Parent Coffees, please submit them here.

Another reminder that on Thursday, October 31, we will celebrate Book Character Day.  Our Kindergarten students will parade around the school dressed as their favorite book characters, and all students are welcome to dress as their favorite book character if they so choose that day.  We ask that students do not wear masks that cover their entire face and that they bring no weapon like accessories. We will continue with instruction on that day and want our students to be able to focus and continue their learning.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Finally, please see information and details below regarding our next three hour early release Monday on October 28.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP   HABoyd@fcps.edu

Krystal Styles, AP   krstyles@fcps.edu

Impact Aid Forms Available on ParentVUE

The Federal Impact Aid program provides money to districts that enroll federally connected students. Help FCPS secure funding from the Impact Aid Program by helping us identify:

  • Military families.
  • Federally connected families.
  • Families living on a military base.

Starting Monday October 21, the electronic Federal Impact Aid Survey form will be accessible through your ParentVUE account. In an effort to save valuable resources, we ask all parents to submit forms online as soon as possible.  We have to receive these forms from every family. If you need an activation code to create a ParentVUE account, please contact our registrar Yujin Choi, ychoi2@fcps.edu

Please complete one form for each child in your household. Remember that only the ENROLLING parent can fill out the Impact Aid Survey form.  Your information will be kept strictly confidential.  Your support will ensure that we receive the resources for which we are eligible.  For questions, please do not contact your teachers or school office.  Please contact the Impact Aid office at lmpactAid@fcps.edu or the support hotline at 703-329-7750.

Reporting Absences

Here are some reminders about reporting absences:

  • Parents and caregivers are able to report full day absences on ParentVUE for the current day and the next four days.
  • For absences that extend beyond this five day window, parents and caregivers need to contact the office or call the attendance line.
  • Parents and caregivers must also report late arrivals and early dismissal directly to Haycock.

PTA Coat Drive for Stanton ES

In continuing our Haycock community's long-standing tradition of helping those in need, the Haycock PTA is organizing a coat / shoe / school supplies drive for Stanton Elementary School in Washington DC. With the onset of cooler weather, as you go through your child's closet replacing summer clothes with winter clothes, please consider donating your child's gently used outerwear or shoes.

Stanton ES starts enrolling students at age 3, and their administration has also expressed a need for school supplies crayons, drawing notebooks, etc for the youngest children. Bins will be available in the cafeteria from now through October 31, and the collected materials will be delivered to Stanton Elementary School in the first week of November

PTA Reflections Contest

Calling all student artists! Reflections is a National PTA arts contest open to students in grades pre-K through 12th grade. Participate in the PTA Reflections program by submitting your completed works of art in one or all available art categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Students may submit in as many arts categories as they would like, but just one piece per category.

This year's theme is "Accepting Imperfection." The entry form and more details on how to enter are here: tinyurl.com/haycockpta Printed materials will also be available in the Haycock library. To qualify, each original work of art must be accompanied by a completed entry form. An artist statement, explaining how the artwork relates to this year's theme, is required. Submissions are due to the Haycock front office or haycockreflections@gmail.com by Wednesday, November 6.

The FCPS CARES Program allows parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees who go above and beyond to help others and show they care about their students, colleagues, and the community.
