Wings for All

Wings for All is a free program that gives families and aviation professionals the confidence to take to the skies with ease by providing an airport “rehearsal,” as well as a presentation on the aircraft features and in-flight safety protocols. The Arc of Loudoun and The Arc of Northern Virginia partner with United Airlines and MWAA to design and carry out this program. By getting comfortable with the airport and flight experience (without actually leaving the airport) people with disabilities and their families can gain the familiarity and confidence they need to take future trips.

During this free, half-day event, people with disabilities and their families are able to familiarize themselves with the airport and travel procedures. They experience:

  • Entering the airport
  • The check-in process and checking bags
  • Security screening
  • Boarding the plane
  • Preparing for take-off
  • Exiting the plane

Wings for All @ Dulles International Airport
Saturday, November 9th from 8 AM - 12 PM

Due to limited space on the airplane, a maximum of four (4) individuals are allowed per family group onto the aircraft, including the individual(s) with disabilities and family members/support staff accompanying them to the event. If a family group has multiple individuals with disabilities, then 1 designated adult is allowed per individual with disability. Additional family members attending the event but not boarding the plane will be able to wait at the gate to welcome them upon their return.

All participants 18 years old and over are required to bring a valid form of government-issued ID to be allowed through security.

Practice Emergency Interactions

Practice Emergency Interactions Saturday, October 19

Join us for a resource fair and practice event with Arlington first responders and community partners as we learn about emergency and crisis resources, and practice navigating emergencies.  You'll be able work on creation the of DD identification cards to hand to first responders to identify a disability in the event of an emergency.  You can also work with first responders to role play a variety of situations and ask questions about how you can navigate emergencies safely.

Learn about setting up your own Emergency Health Profile.  The Emergency Health Profile allows individuals to voluntarily create a free emergency health profile to provide first responders with their vital health and medical information (behavioral health related information included) when calling 9-1-1 or 9-8-8 during an emergency or crisis. Individuals over the age of 16 may sign-up for an Emergency Health Profile through the Emergency Health Profile Association. Legal guardians may sign up individuals under the age of 16.  This team will also discuss 988 and options to call during a behavioral/mental health emergency, and what you can expect.

The Arc of Northern Virginia's award winning Tech for Independent Living team will be present to talk about free customized apps to grow skills, independence, and safety.

You can arrive anytime from 11 AM-1 PM, and the event continues until 2 PM.

Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:

  • A healthcare provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
  • A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  • A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with religious tenets or practices.
